Dr Dionysios Demetis is a Senior Lecturer at the Business School of the University of Hull in the United Kingdom and an active research member of the Centre for Systems Studies. He holds a PhD in Anti-Money Laundering and Information Systems from the London School of Economics, a Masters from the LSE in Information Systems. He has a background in Physics from the University of Crete as well as a Degree in Music (Piano) from the National Conservatory of Athens. At the LSE, he taught on Information Systems Management, Information Systems Security and Research Methods. He has contributed on 3 major EU-funded AML research projects, two of which are on the intersection between Information Systems and Anti-Money Laundering (projects Spotlight and GATE), and another one on Information Society (FIDIS). His research on AML and Risk has been featured in the select bibliography of the United Nations, while his work on ‘Data Growth and the Consequences to Anti-Money Laundering’ has won the Emerald Highly Commended Award from the Journal of Money Laundering Control. He has co-authored a large number of research deliverables on Anti-Money Laundering for the European Commission and the Future of Identity for the Information Society (FIDIS), a large scale 6-year EU-funded project with 25 academic/industry participants across the EU (including Microsoft and IBM), for which he was a Convener of its Steering Group. Additionally, he is the author of two books: Science’s First Mistake (on Methodology, Systems Theory, and the creation of Epistemological Paradoxes alongside Prof Ian Angell), published worldwide by Bloomsbury Academic, and ‘Technology and Anti-Money Laundering: A Systems Theory and Risk-Based Approach’, a monograph published worldwide by Edward Elgar. His book on AML entitled ‘Technology and Anti-Money Laundering’ is the first book to provide a coherent theoretical structure for Anti-Money Laundering research and practice based on Systems Theory, and the first book to provide an Information Systems perspective on Anti-Money Laundering.

Ian Angell is a forecaster of the socio-political and business consequences of Information and Communication Technologies, with over four decades of research experience into the impact of computerization on society. He is an Emeritus Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Management at the London School of Economics.

Angell is well known for his pragmatic, down-to-earth and outspoken views on electronic commerce. However, his reputation is based on his radical no-nonsense support of Capitalism in the Information Age, which he portrays in his books The New Barbarian Manifesto, and Flight of the Golden Geese. Angell features routinely in the press and media worldwide (noteworthy are his views on “off-planet banking,” and the future of money), and he is a stalwart of the international lecture circuit - he has stepped in at short notice to cover for the absences of both President Mikhail Gorbachev (for Stern Stewart in Chartes) and Senator Edward Kennedy (for Zefer at Harvard).

Angell has acted as a consultant on managing the complexity of information systems to a large number of companies, and to governments and the EU. He was a personal advisor to the Cabinet of Federico Mayor when the latter was Director General of UNESCO, and he has consulted for the Russian Ministry of Science, and the Malaysian National IT Council.

He combines extensive experience of commercial claims for misuse of confidential information with expertise in the privacy rules under EU law, the European Convention of Human Rights and national regulatory regimes in Europe and Asia. Gordon works with the finance, utility and other sectors on data privacy and compliance. He acts in high-profile cases about surveillance and covert data-gathering as well as dealing with confidentiality, privilege and disclosure issues in commercial litigation, arbitration and regulatory investigations. Gordon is a former litigation solicitor. In the 1990s he practised international law at the Council of Europe and went on to serve as UK Parliamentary Counsel before moving to the Bar. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an accredited mediator. Gordon is a regular contributor to professional publications, debates and seminars.

Dr Anthony H Cordesman is the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at CSIS. During his time at CSIS, Cordesman has been director of the Gulf Net Assessment Project and the Gulf in Transition Study, as well as principal investigator of the CSIS Homeland Defense Project. He has led studies on national missile defense, asymmetric warfare and weapons of mass destruction, and critical infrastructure protection. He directed the CSIS Middle East Net Assessment Project and codirected the CSIS Strategic Energy Initiative. He is the author of a wide range of studies on U.S. security policy, energy policy, and Middle East policy and has served as a consultant to the Departments of State and Defense during the Afghan and Iraq wars. He served as part of General Stanley McChrystal’s civilian advisory group during the formation of a new strategy in Afghanistan and has since acted as a consultant to various elements of the U.S. military and NATO. Current projects include ongoing analysis of the security situation in the Gulf, U.S. strategic competition with Iran, the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, a net assessment of the Indian Ocean region, Chinese military developments and U.S. and Asian assessments of these developments, changes in the nature of modern war, and assessments of U.S. defense strategy, programs, and budgets. His recent paper, "Setting New U.S. Strategic Priorities for a Post-Trump World" (9 November 2020) is well worth reading as the world looks to a new Biden Administration.

Ms Madeleine Moon represented the Bridgend constituency at Westminster from 2005 to 2019. She joined the Defence Select Committee in 2009. She chaired sub-committees reporting on the safety and welfare of military personnel on training and exercises, the use of Remotely Piloted Air Systems and defence in the Arctic. Madeleine was a member of the UK Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly from 2010, serving as a member of the Defence and Security Committee. She was elected President in November 2018. Since leaving Westminster Madeleine has continued to work defence facing organisations including Cityforum and joined the European Leadership Network.

Mr Carl Miller is a technology author and researcher. His first book is The Death of the Gods: The New Global Power Grab. An examination of the new centres of power and control in the twenty-first century, it was published by Penguin Random House in August 2018. In 2012 he co-founded the first UK think tank institute dedicated to studying the digital world at DEMOS, and has written for the Economist, Wired, New Scientist, the Sunday Times, the Telegraph and the Guardian. He’s also a Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College London.

Dr Catarina P Thomson is Senior Lecturer in Security and Strategic Studies in the Politics Department of the University of Exeter. Her background is in clinical psychology and international relations. Her recent work compares the foreign policy attitudes of security elites and the general public in the UK, Europe, and the United States. Her work has been funded by the American National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense’s Minerva Research Initiative, and the Economic and Social Research Council among others.

“I am both perplexed why change in the justice sector is so tough and deeply convinced that justice systems can offer much more value than they do now. That’s why I founded HiiL in 2005, after having worked at the forefront of developing the Yugoslav Tribunal and later the International Criminal Court. As a UN and later ICC official I saw the flame of the Middle East peace process gradually go out. I saw the effects of wars in the former Yugoslavia, northern Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These situations show when rules designed to protect human dignity don't work. They're extreme, I know. But I carry them with me always to keep me focused on what matters: effective rule systems that support human dignity, every day, in daily life. The users of the justice system come first."

Sam Muller is the founding director of HiiL. It’s mission is to empower 150 million people to prevent or resolve their most pressing justice problems by 2030. An international lawyer by training, Sam works on justice strategy and innovation at the highest political levels, connecting knowledge about needs and what works with change processes that make a difference. The clients he has worked for include governments, international businesses and leading civil society organisations. Sam also led the setting up of the Justice Leadership Foundation and the Wildlife Justice Commission.

Before his work at HiiL he was closely involved in building the International Criminal Court. He worked as legal adviser at UNRWA and the then newly established ICTY. He holds a law degree and a doctorate from Leiden University and taught there. He has published and spoken extensively on various topics: legal trends and strategy, justice leadership, justice innovation, and international justice issues. Sam has served on many boards. He is currently chair of the supervisory board of World Wildlife Fund - The Netherlands and a member of the International Board of WWF. He is also chair of the supervisory board of the Wildlife Justice Commission. He served as Senior Adviser to the Task Force on Justice that published a ground-breaking report in July 2019. In addition, he is a member of the Advisory Board of the Impact Investment Exchange, IIX. He was active within the World Economic Forum on the topics of rule of law and justice, chairing two agenda councils.

Immediate before his election as bishop John served for nine years as rector of St Mark’s, Dundela, the Belfast parish where CS Lewis was born and where Lewis’ grandfather served as rector. John was elected Church of Ireland Bishop of Clogher (a cross border diocese) in 2011, and Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland in March 2020 – the 106th in succession to St Patrick. He is Church of Ireland lead on Christian Unity and Dialogue, NI Political Affairs and Brexit. He was educated at Queens University, Belfast (History), the London School of Economics (Business Studies) and the University of Dublin, Trinity College (Theology).

Dóra is the Co-Chairman of the Regulatory Committee of the Hungarian AI Coalition and leads formulating the response of the Hungarian AI Coalition to the EU consultation request regarding the EU White Paper on Artificial Intelligence, A European Approach to Excellence and Trust. Marek Oleksyn is a qualified Polish attorney-at-law and a Partner at CMS IP/TMC practice in the Warsaw office. He has over 16 years of experience in a broad range of intellectual property matters, including trademark, patent, design, unfair competition, copyright, domain names, plant variety, databases and IP customs protection. Marek represents clients in court litigation, domain name disputes and arbitration as well as trademark invalidation and revocation matters.
