In the first episode of this series, I will examine the impact of groupthink on media coverage, focusing on Ethiopia as my case study. Our guests, Eden Gessesse and Deborah Belay, both members of the Ethiopian community in Birmingham, will shed light on the lack of attention given to the Amhara genocide in Western newsrooms and their frustrations with incomplete or negative coverage of Ethiopia. Additionally, we will explore ways to encourage Western newsrooms to prioritise coverage of Africa.

In the second part, we will be joined by Marcus Ryder, editor of Black British Lives Matter and Head of external consultancies at the Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity. We will delve into the significance of diversity in journalism, discussing why certain stories are not highlighted in the media, the pressures of doing stories with higher demand, and whether the lives of certain people are prioritised over others. Furthermore, we will explore why journalists fear discussing diversity and the potential repercussions of doing so.
