  • Having Influence In The Workplace | Part 2

People often think the Great Commission is just for those who work at churches and don’t see themselves as pastors, disciple makers, or ministers in the workplace, but is that right? What if we saw our work as a platform for ministry and a place where we live out what we were called to do?

  • Having Influence In The Workplace | Part 1

People often think the Great Commission is just for those who work at churches and don’t see themselves as pastors, disciple makers, or ministers in the workplace, but is that right? What if we saw our work as a platform for ministry and a place where we live out what we were called to do?

    Discussion Questions

    1. Is work as important to God as Doug said? Do I believe that? Why or why not?
    2. How effective am I in reaching my coworkers that don’t know Christ? Why am I or why am I not?
    3. What’s one thing I can do differently at work, today or tomorrow, that will have me being more missional in the marketplace?

    And, as always, ask yourself...

    1. What does this mean for me personally?
    2. What am I going to do about it? (What step of faith does God want me to take?)
    3. How can we (the group) help?

    • Spiritual Leadership In The Home | Part 2

      Description

As Men, we all feel confusion and insecurity around spiritual leadership in the home and disappointment because we’re not the leaders we want to be. In this episode, Lee and Robby conclude a two-part conversation on the topic of spiritual leadership, giving clarity to what our God-given role is and practical ideas on how we can own this responsibility and bring new life to our families.

      Main Ideas

      • You can’t fake your way to leading spiritually in your home.
      • Being head of the household means loving your wife and sacrificing for her.
      • Loving your wife means meeting her needs like you do for yourself.
      • We naturally love and care for ourselves well; we are appointed to love our wives first.
      • Let God love you and meet your needs so you can do likewise for your family.
      • Blessings happen when you align with God’s design.

      Discussion Questions

      • What would most people say is the meaning of spiritual leadership?
      • What do you think about this structure of leadership in the home? What does it look like and feel like to you?
      • Which one of the four questions about delegating vs. owning responsibility do you want to grow in?
        • Do you blame other people for problems in your home?
        • Do you allow your wife to take the blame for problems in your home?
        • How are you distancing yourself from those family problems?
        • Does your wife think you listen well?
      • How can you love your wife better? How can you meet your wife’s needs better?
      • What does this mean for me personally?
      • What are you going to do about it (what step of faith is God inviting me to take)?
      • How can we help?

    • Expectations Are Everything

Everyone has expectations for what they want out of a group. Not talking about these expectations can lead to frustration and confusion. In this episode, Lee and Robby start the conversation and give us one key question every group should ask.

      Main Ideas

      • Loneliness is a problem in our culture. Changes in communication, pace of life, and urbanization are a few of the many causes.
      • We can’t fully experience God’s love apart from relationships.
      • Being known by a few takes intentionality; we rarely “drift” into deep, authentic community.
      • Not every guy is looking for the same relational depth from a men’s group.
      • We can create mutual understanding by having a group conversation about each member’s relational expectations.

      Discussion Questions

      1. What was a lonely season in your life? What was a season when you felt a strong sense of belonging? What factors contributed to each?
      2. Think through the following questions as a “community self-assessment”:
      • If you’re in a crisis, who do you call at 2:00 in the morning?
      • Who do you ask to pray for you?
      • Who do you call to celebrate a victory in an area of your life?

         3.  Share your answers to the questions Robby and Lee asked with your group:

        • What do I (currently) need relationally?
        • What am I going to do about it?
        • How can the group help?

           4. If there are strong different expectations between group members what do you want to do about it? …gravitate toward one? …split the group? Let’s go there.

What does this mean (for me personally)?

What am I going to do about it? (What step of faith is God inviting me to take?)

        How can we help?

      1. It's Time To Talk About Race | Part 2 (Feat. Tyreke Wesley)

        DESCRIPTION

Words like “racial reconciliation” and “racial sensitivity” bring feelings and thoughts, and most of us are not doing a deep dive into the conversation… but we can and it’s not that hard. In this podcast, Robby and Lee continue their interview with Tyreke Wesley about the subtleties of racism, how we can personally reflect on our own experiences and perspectives toengage in conversations leading towards unity.

        Main Ideas

        • There is a difference between equality and equity that matters in this conversation.
        • Guilt and shame don’t help us move the conversation forward.
        • It’s true that none of us were the people who established these structures that are negatively impacting people, but do we want to be the people who affect changes to them.
        • Non-racist is not the same as anti-racist.
        • Acknowledge that even though we grew up in the same country, we may not have the same experience with regard to race or culture.
        • If we say we love Jesus, but don’t stand-up for people who have been mistreated or marginalized then we discredit the Gospel. They will know we are his (Jesus’) disciples by our love for one another.
        • 3 postures to take when entering into a sensitive conversation like this:
          • Don’t take it too personally.
          • Seek to understand before trying to make a point.
          • Be honest about where you are at and reserve the possibility that you might be wrong.

        Discussion Questions

        1. What is your own story with regard to race and relationships with people different than you racially or culturally?  Be as honest and real as possible knowing you won’t be judged or “fixed” by the men in your group.
        2. Why is it hard for you to talk about this topic?
        3. What does love require of you with regard to becoming more anti-racist?

        Additional questions:

        1. Is it ok to just “see no color” or see everyone as the same?
        2. Are you comfortable avoiding the conversation and being “non-racist” or are you interested in being anti-racist and what does that look like for you?
        3. Are there any beliefs from your story that you may need to change your thinking on?
        4. What would keep you from watching a documentary or reading a book to go deeper on this subject? Below are some suggested resources.

What does this mean (for me personally)?

What am I going to do about it (what step of faith is God inviting me to take)?

        How can we help?

         Resources

Here are three resources that Tyreke recommends for learning and growing:

        • 13th– Documentary about mass incarceration
        • America’s original sin– book by Jim Wallis
