The Future of Energy

Episode 6 (Part 3): COP26 is now over and whilst negotiations continued into the weekend, an agreement was finally reached. In this final instalment of our 'COP26 Special' podcast we hear from RES' CEO, Eduardo Medina and Elizabeth Press, Director, Planning and Programme Support at IRENA about their views on COP26 and how we can start thinking beyond the climate summit. The agreement will only survive if promises are kept, and commitments translate into rapid action.

Episode 6 (Part 2): We are now in the second week of COP26 and in this episode we continue to take the temperature of the climate conference. As the hard work on the summit's 'final decision text' continues in negotiation rooms, we asked some of those focused on delivering low carbon solutions what they wanted to see from COP26, and what positive action can be taken now to achieve a net zero future.

Episode 6 (Part 1): In this episode we are live from COP26 and trying to take the temperature of the climate conference. COP26 President Alok Sharma has called for world leaders to come together for our planet, saying “Paris, promised, Glasgow, must deliver”. We wanted to ask some of those focused on delivering low carbon solutions what they wanted to see from COP26, and what positive action can be taken now to achieve a net zero future.

In this episode we look at whether green hydrogen has the potential to clean up hard-to-abate sectors and help cut emissions from transport and heavy industry to combat climate change. With guests Britta Ersman of RES and Luke Tan, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Supercritical.

When we think about wind farms, we automatically think of them as being inherently green and good for the environment. But there are lots of measures and precautions needed to ensure they don’t negatively impact the things and people around them locally, both during the development phase and then when they’re operational.

In this episode we want to unpack some of that and ask - how do we develop wildlife friendly wind farms?

In this episode we discuss all things offshore wind. Joined by guests from RES and ORE Catapult, Maf considers how the industry has grown over the last thirty years, and where its headed as offshore becomes a big priority for the International Energy Agency (IEA) in meetings its ambitious targets.

In this second part of episode 2 we explore further how AI is transforming the renewables sector - and its impact on our lives and jobs. With guests Alex Bamberger of RES and Phil Harvey from Microsoft.

Alex Bamberger of RES and Phil Harvey from Microsoft join Maf Smith to unpack one of the biggest questions facing us - how can AI make our lives easier? And in relation to energy and renewables, how is it being used to speed up the transition?

In this second episode we continue the conversation with Rachel Ruffle and Adam Bruce, and take closer look at where different governments around the world are in the race to net-zero.

In this first episode we focus on the pandemic and its impact on the race to net zero, and how the renewables industry has reacted to the global crisis over the past months.
