The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill (DPDP), 2022 was released by the government and recently closed for public comments. This is the 4th version of the bill aimed at protecting data privacy after undergoing multiple iterations. The previous bills drafted by the government were larger in scope whereas, the latest bill is concise and regulates specific parts of data privacy. The new bill would undoubtedly require businesses to re-examine their compliance structure given the changing framework.
