A Public Affair

The Future of Reproductive Justice

Listen Later

“It’s never just been about abortion, and it’s not about abortion now.”
For today’s show, guest host Tonya Brito is in conversation with law professor and dean Kimberly Mutcherson about the legal repercussions of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the recent Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, reversed fifty years of legal precedent, and restricted access to abortion for millions of people across the country.
They discuss a variety of topics, including Justice Clarence Thomas’s “two cents” on the decision, the patchwork of state laws spawning from the decision, connections between abortion and assisted reproductive technology like IVF, whether it’s enough to have some states as abortion havens (spoiler alert: it’s not), and where we go from here.
Kimberly Mutcherson is co-dean and professor of law at Rutgers Law School in Camden, New Jersey. Dean Mutcherson is a reproductive justice scholar whose work sits at the intersection of bioethics, health law, and family. She has a particular focus on assisted reproduction, abortion, disability, and medical decision-making for pregnant women and children. She is the editor of Feminist Judgments: Reproductive Justice Rewritten (Cambridge University Press, 2020).
