Governor Tony Evers is proposing to legalize recreational and medical marijuana as part of the next state budget. What could this mean for the future of weed in Wisconsin?

For this episode, Wednesday host Ali Muldrow hosts a cannabis equity roundtable with Los Angeles–based journalist Amanda Chicago Lewis, who reports on cannabis issues nationally; Peter Contos, advocacy director at Cannabis Equity Illinois; and Maurice Rice II, staff attorney with Cabrini Green Legal Aid in Chicago.

First up, we get a quick local update from Wisconsin Senator Melissa Agard, who has long advocated for marijuana legalization in Wisconsin during her time in the legislature.

Then, Ali and the roundtable guests “get into the weeds” about how legalization has been implemented in neighboring Illinois, what we owe to people who have been incarcerated and harmed during the War on Drugs, why this is a pressing racial justice issue, and how Wisconsin may be poised to do better than other states by building equity into the policies from the start.
