Niki Lee poses the question "how are we reimagining how we show up to work, whether that be in a physical world or a virtual world?" And the answers lies within how a company is or isn't leaning into cultivating the culture. What used to be considered the "fluff stuff" has risen to the top as the most important to address. The human piece. The trick becomes finding ways to meet executive leader's goals and objectives while being sensitive to the the culture and employee engagement.

The entrepreneurial journey is usually filled with many twists and turns and the path for Jim McCarthy was no different. There are not many people that can say they were not only there when the internet was being developed into how we interact with it today but to have had a hand in that development, which may come to no surprise, was being curated during the early stages of Amazon.
Jim illustrates that entrepreneurial thinking is what makes the difference in seeing an opportunity that can be executed uniquely in order to be more effective or to create a new idea that will solve a problem more effectively. The question then becomes, how do we begin to cultivate innovative thinking as a skill that can be taught within an educational institute in order to yield a workforce that has the potential to change our future?

WorkingNation is a non-profit campaign and media company whose mission is to shine light on solutions to workforce issues. They focus on creating a pathway for a job seeker to a good job by employing the power of story-telling and media.
Ramona expresses the importance of "doing" as we grow our careers and skillsets through out the length of our work-life. She tells us that "the skill-based nature that the workforce is heading towards needs to be talked about in the media and exposed as opportunities".
In this episode we discuss the importance of flipping the script and perspective that a 4-year degree is needed to acquire these "high-tech' jobs at large companies like Google, when in fact you don't. Just the required skills and some great soft-skills. Which we often learn in places outside of a 4-year curriculum.

In this episode, host Salvatrice Cummo sat down with Dr. Brock Klein, the Associate Dean of Pathways First Year Experience Program at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year in the Fall to talk about his role within the program, how they support students before they even begin at Pasadena City College and the importance of building a team students can rely on past the first year of college, in order to prepare them for completion. As we enter the New Normal, programs such as pathways are imperative to designing or redesigning what that path to exit will look like.

The World Trade Center Los Angeles can be considered the international trade arm of the LAEDC. The overall goal is to help the economy thrive and grow. The reality is Los Angeles is a gateway to 40% of the goods that are imported into the United States and California is the hub for much of the technology that is being developed, so how can we lean into the exchange and the industry that we have here in order to imagine an even better future for the United States as we enter the "New Normal". It starts with our relationships with education and policy.
