Reframing the word | John 1:1-14

Consider Jesus:

John the Evangelist, almost two millennia ago, recorded these words: "Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." If we are called to keep watch, does it matter where we stand? If Jesus commands us to be ready, what pitfalls must we be aware of?

This Sunday we looked at two advent pitfalls - a failure of nerve and a failure of heart (see Tod Bolsinger, Tempered Resilience).

“Failure of nerve is caving to the pressure of the anxiety of the group to return to the status quo. It is a loss of courage to further the mission…Failure of heart is the “emotional cutoff” that occurs when the leader’s discouragement leads them to psychologically abandon their people and the charge they have been given.”

In the end we need more than awareness, we need to stand secure - well differentiated - in Christ.
