Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) sit down to chat about the lesbian period pieces that we have been getting inundated with lately. It has been a trend for a long time, but it has definitely been getting worse. They continue casting famous straight actors and then using the exact same plot. We aren’t knocking the formula, we love a good lesbian yearning scene. But there are just so many of these movies and the majority of them do not have happy endings. Only 5% of all lesbian films and tv shows end happily. We are bombarded with tragedy and we are sick of it. We talk about how much better it would be if they could give us some happy endings, literally any diversity, queer actors, and queer directors. We also talk about our favorite lesbian period pieces and why they work for us, like Carol, Dickinson, and Gentleman Jack.
