Drug Repurposing for Parkinson’s Disease with Deep Learning
Can existing drugs reveal new possibilities for Parkinson’s disease research?
In this episode of The Gazette of Medical Sciences Podcast, we explore the research article “Drug Repurposing for Parkinson’s Disease with Deep Learning: A Virtual Screening Approach” by Dr. Kiran Vokkarne and Dr. Raji Sundararajan, School of Engineering Technology, Purdue University, USA.
The study investigates how artificial intelligence, deep learning, drug repurposing, virtual screening, and drug-target interaction prediction can be used to identify existing drugs that may warrant further investigation for Parkinson’s disease. Using DeepPurpose, a Python-based deep-learning framework, the researchers screened drug candidates against biological targets associated with Parkinson’s disease.
The computational screening identified Remdesivir, Metformin, and Simvastatin among the drugs showing high scores compared with Levodopa. The study also considers biological relevance, blood-brain barrier and CNS impact, mechanism alignment, literature, and safety in its multifactor assessment.
Importantly, these computational findings do not establish these drugs as treatments for Parkinson’s disease. The research highlights the need for laboratory validation and further in-vitro investigation before potential clinical translation.

What happens when surveillance technology is misused or when potentially important digital evidence is not presented?
In this episode of The Gazette of Medical Sciences Podcast,Dr. Michael Kirk Moore examines automated license-plate readers, cellphone location data, body-camera records, privacy, police accountability, and the constitutional implications of warrantless tracking. Drawing on cases discussed in his published perspective article, Dr. Moore asks whether surveillance technology is used and disclosed consistently and who watches those entrustedwith operating these powerful systems.
This thought-provoking discussion connects medical science, public health, public policy, ethics, technology, law, privacy, and institutional accountability. The interpretations presented in this episode reflect the author’s analysis and perspective.

In this first episode of Uncovering the Energy Dynamics Behind Chronic Diseases, we explore a profound shift in perspective presented in the work by Dr. Ken Thorp. This episode delves into how COVID-19 may not only be a viral illness, but also a systemic energy-depletion syndrome that disrupts protein folding, leads to amyloid formation, and triggers widespread biological dysfunction.
We discuss how energy collapse within cells may be the root cause of clotting, autoimmunity, and neurological symptoms — moving beyond the surface of immune reactions to the deeper mechanics of prion-like behavior and biophysical imbalance. This paradigm offers a unified framework for understanding both acute COVID and long-haul cases.
