Fico Ossio’s variant for JSA #2 is like beautiful. David Nakayama’s cover D for Action Comics 1078 is literally beautiful. Mateus Manhanini on Absolute Superman 2 is on fire and both JonBoy Meyers and Bjorn Barends draw covers I’d love to have.

Titles

DC's Batman Smells, Robin Laid an Egg #1 - John Stewart, The Secret Six, John Constantine, The Joker, Deadman, Dr. Mid-Nite, Vixen, and Superman get their own little crazy Holiday stories from DC’s annual anthology book. And it’s not bad. Typical seasonal anthology, if you can get past the cover. 7/10

DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #3 – This is dark, gritty, written well and a fun read. I hope that it continues because so far, we’ve got a really good main universe Horror book here, and I’d like to keep it that way. 8.25/10

Batman / Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #2 – It’s amazing art, stellar, which a big cast of popular characters and a story that, so far, looks to out do our last go round with the Silent Knight. I’m all in for this series. Good time. 8/10

DC Horror Presents... #2 – Two twisted tales for The Penguin and Scarface. The Penguin one wasn’t bad., The Scarface one was really good, if not a little messed up. Good stuff. 7.75/10

Little Batman Month One #2 – This continues to be a fun story for everyone, and suitable for the younger crowds. The comedy is just great. 8/10

Batgirl #2 – Continuing the story, Cass is forced to do things she doesn’t want… like leave Gotham. But with this new enemy, is that the right choice? Second issue, and it’s a killer. 8.25/10

McFarlane Toys again for variant covers on Batman / Superman: World's Finest #33, Action comics #1076, Titans #17. Lots of pretty good variants this week, but my favorite is undoubtedly Catwoman #70 by Frank Cho, followed very closely by the Watchtower Variants from Jorge Fornes, Lucio Parrillo, and Danny Earls.

Issues

Batman & Robin Year One #2 – Really good. 100% Samnee art. The dialog is great and it’s a really good story. 8.25/10

Batman Full Moon #2– Fantastic. Utterly fantastic. If anyone is telling you otherwise, well, the just aren’t right. The art and story and dialog are all spot on in this book. 8.5/10

Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #5– Okay 5 issues in and I can officially say this without doubt. So far, Allwinter outshines the original story, and that original story was awesome… and… the art scheme. It sells it so much. Every sliver of the story is also being told in the art and the colors and if you aren’t reading it, I mean this, you are truly missing out. .. 8.5/10

Jenny Sparks #4– I really don’t know what I was expecting with this. At all. But it wasn’t this. I didn’t expect to like this. Here I am hating it. The art is really, really, really good. But that’s NOT Jenny Sparks OR Captain Atom. Again, it’s the art – 6.5/10

Wonder Woman #15 – Same as Jenny Sparks, but lower because this is canon, not Elseworlds. Great art. Awesome art. Really crappy story. 6/10

Milestone Universe-The Shadow Cabinet #1– So much in this issue! It really kicked this 4-issue mini off. There’s a lot to the issue, and it’s a good thing it has extra pages. I’m really looking forward to the next issue so we can find out more about what’s going on, and what will happen with the Blood Syndicate and where are the rest of the team? Man, I love Milestone. 8.5/10.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - The Kryptonian Age #6 – We’re at the halfway point in this one and man, this train just keeps chugging along. The rta is good and the story is better. Alan Scott’s costume being a mashup of everyone else’s is really cool. And wait till you see the surprise on the last page. I dig it. 8/10

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #4 - 4 issues in and this could easily be the best of the series, and they’ve been pretty good. And Ra’s Al Ghul gets a tongue lashing from Damian that just tears him to shreds. Oh, and have I mentioned yet that Alfred Pennyworth is a Green Lantern? 8/10

Batman: Uncovered #1 – Like the rest of the series, this is full of gorgeous artwork, and it even includes that MS Paint cover from Tom King in it. Love it. 9/10

Little Batman: Month One #1 – Batman keeps his beard. Damian asks Bruce who taught him most of his martial arts and he answers “Your Graaaa actually let’s talk about that some other time. If you enjoy the silliness of the movie Merry Little Batman, you’ll enjoy this book. I sure did. 8/10

My Adventures with Superman #6 – This is a really really great ending to this emotional Amazo story. I really mean it when I say give this series a read.  8.5/10

Batman & Scooby Doo Mysteries #11 – Book reviews by Dash - I loved this issue. There are literally NO problems. Lots of action scenes, story, everything you want. The art was super good, but it used caption boxes and not thought balloons and I like the balloons. 9.9/10

Batman The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #2 – I’m really surprised. This is good. A lot of people dead, and more on the way. I’m having a far better time with this than my stoic don’t mess with the classics opinion should allow me, but here we are. 8/10

The Nice House by the Sea #4 – We find out about why Walter left the door open between the houses, and, well, that’s not good for anyone. 8.5/10

The Penguin Special #1 – A disturbingly creepy first story from Jeremy Adams, Howard Porter, HIFI and Troy Peteri that really leans into the sadistic side of the Penguin, a classic silver age tale, the secret origins penguin special from 1989, Joker’s Asylum featuring the Penguin, all some of the best penguin stories there are - 8/10

Wonder Woman Uncovered #1 – Just like all the rest of the Uncovered Series – mountains of beautiful art. 9/10

From the DC Vault: Death in the Family - Robin Lives #4 – I’ll tell you this much, as click bait as it sounds. You won’t believe what happens in this issue. Period. It’s awesome. 8.5/10

Power Girl #14 – God I love this book. It looks so good and I dig this story. This has been consistently good. 8/10

Green Lantern: Dark #1 – I really don’t know what I was expecting with this. At all. What I got was some interesting art very appropriate for the book, and a story that is brand new, a little weird, and pretty dang good. 8.5/10

John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #10 – This entire issue is Holy $#%. 9/10

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #18 – So much in this issue! Batman doubts his worthiness; Miss Martian, Jackson Hyde, and the Power of Friendship!; Harley (of course); An evil Elvis wannabe; All the Robins (plus more Robins); and Resurrection Pet Edition – This was really good. 8/10

MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 – “Rated by Dash” – 4/5. This issue is just crazy but it is good and I love the pictures.

Jenny Sparks #3 – 4/10 – Evil Captain Atom kills the enti8re Justice League team. But also didn’t. Or maybe he did? And Jenny smokes. Such. Great. Writing. All points given for the art.

Batman: Full Moon #1 – 7.5/10 – An interesting story. Batman’s no stranger to horror stories, but this one feels written a little different. I enjoy it, and Subic’s art. However, Subic… stop signing interior pages. You look incredibly full of yourself when you do that. It’s in the credits. That’s the only place it needs to be.

Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #4 – 8/10 – I really hope that DKOS continues after this, like a White Knight kind of universe. Please. So fun to read, such great stories. Such good art.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 – 8.25/10 – This is a great year one story without it being an origin story. It’s not campy or with cheesy dialog. I’s written well; the art works awesome. It’s a great time.

The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley – 9/10 – This was awesome. Really. Like an origin story for the development of the Harley Quinn side of Harleen Quinzel. And Poison Ivy. It was done really well and the art works great for it too. It’s not a kid’s book, unless kids should read the F bomb, which does show up once along with some other profanity later in the book. So… if this was a movie, it would be rated PG 13.

This Is Our Land – A Blue Beetle Story – 9.5/10 – A VERY rare 9.5 from me because of how absolutely amazing this book is. There’s really not another way to describe it. It’s relevant, has real meaning, is impactful and it gives a cool bit of an origin story. And it’s written so damn well that I couldn’t peel my eyes off of it, and may even go back and read it again. Unbelievably good. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Harley Quinn in Paradise #1 – 7.75/10 - It’s a silly webcomic about Harley shortly after breaking up with the Joker. She’s pissed off a lot of criminals and Poison Ivy warns her to hide… so her idea to make everyone love her while staying safe is … get cast on a reality show looking for true love. Ooohhhh boy. This should be something. The art is good, and I like Harley’s new look at the end of the issue.

Nothing Butt Nightwing #1 – 7/10 – A webcomic about Nightwing going undercover as a model while dealing with… being dumped by Babs. For a webcomic, this was actually not too bad. I’ve seen far worse. It was enjoyable for what it was… but… if an issue is centered around Dick Grayson’s butt, only Nicola Scott should be asked to draw it. Art wasn’t bad though.
