This past weekend saw the wide release of two films, Tomb Raider, and Love, Simon. It also saw the limited release of the Faith-based film I Can Only Imagine.

In the number one spot is Black Panther, if you can believe it. It holds on to that ranking for its fifth weekend, taking in $27.0M domestically. Its grand total for its worldwide grosses so far is $1.182Bn, making it the fourth highest marvel film to date, behind Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3. The film has become the second highest grossing Marvel film domestically, trailing only Avengers. Without a doubt, by the time its run is up, its domestic total will beat that of Avengers.

At number two, we have Tomb Raider with $23.5M. It was tracking for $25M, though when all said and done, I'm fairly confident the studio was hoping for better. Though while its domestic cume has been terrible, it's made $126M worldwide. Will it make enough to justify its $94M budget? We'll have to wait and see.

At number three is the random I Can Only Imagine, a faith-based film that brought in $17.0M despite its limited theater run. Based on its $7M budget, it's clear that this one is another success for faith-based films.

Black Panther Holds Onto First, A Wrinkle In Time Stumbles Out Of The Gate

This past weekend saw four wide releases in the form of A Wrinkle in Time, Strangers: Prey at Night, The Hurricane Heist, and Gringo.

Sadly, none of those movies hit number one, getting beaten by the juggernaut Black Panther, which brought in $41.1M domestically in its fourth weekend. This brings its grand worldwide total to $1.078B -- an impressive feat for a first film in a franchise. Given its momentum, it's impossible to tell just what film will slow it down in the coming weeks -- if any at all.

At number two is A Wrinkle in Time. This well-meaning movie came in with a disappointing $33.3M, shy of the $35M the studio expected, and well below Box Office Mojo's own $40-$45M expectations. As it stands, there are a lot of comparisons being made to Disney's 2015 box office disappointment. Audiences have given it a B CinemaScore, which isn't great, and having seen the film myself, I can understand where this criticism is all coming from.

At number three, we have Stranger: Prey at Night. The film made $10.5M, which is about what was expected. Given that it's a horror film, it's likely that this opening will do just fine for it, but we have no idea what the budget of the film is. Strangers: Prey at Night received a C CinemaScore, making it unlikely that this will end up being a much-talked-about runaway hit.
