I learned so much about people in my interview with Sam Mitchell. He is a 22 year old, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, blogger, podcaster, educator and has done a Tedex talk. Sam is a high functioning human being on the autism spectrum with a mission: to show people that people with autism are not broken. He has spoken all over the world, demonstrating his success and educating people about autism.

Andrew Shelley has been involved in the world of squash for nearly 50 years. He is the founder of the World Squash Library and a co-author of Squash: Then and Now: A Celebration. He wants people to know where the sport of squash came from, its background, and its history.

The book is a beautiful compilation of history, photos and anecdotes of how squash started, and how it has transformed into the game it is today.

The interview is dedicated to my old squash coach, Ann Wetzel, who passed away in May 2024.

Andrew Shelley has been involved in squash administration and management since 1976. For 18 years he managed events and operations, including the British Open, for the English SRA. From 1994 until 2010 he was CEO of WISPA (the women’s pro tour). Following that he became CEO of the World Squash Federation until 2019, at which point he retired and founded the World Squash Library to ‘give back’ to the sport. He also acted as Championship and Technical Director for many world championships; and was awarded an MBE for services to squash in 2021. He is immensely grateful to his wife and family who have allowed him a lifetime selfishly dedicated to squash!

Who better than a guy who spent 25 years as a newspaper reporter and established himself as one of the mainstream media's harshest critics to write a book about the broken relationship between the media and the American public? Makes sense to me, but it took me a while to get to this point. You could say writing is in my blood -- my mother was a newspaper reporter and photographer and before her, my grandmother as well. But I started off on a divergent path, earning a degree in criminal justice. However, once I graduated, I decided law enforcement wasn't for me, so I got a job as a security officer by day and pursued a second degree in journalism by night. I then parlayed my two degrees into my first job as a full-time newspaper crime reporter in 1996. Two years later, I moved from Rhode Island to Pennsylvania, working for three different newspapers in the Keystone State, all as a crime and emergency news reporter. Sensing a seismic shift in the craft and industry of journalism, I left newspapers in 2021, and now work in public relations. My first book, Saving the Beast -- A Recovering Reporter Reflects on America's Broken Media and How to Fix it -- is the culmination of nearly two years of dissecting the conundrum of the media versus the public. Kelly Kirk has quite the story. He was living a charmed life. Then, everything changed. His niece and nephew were murdered, his parents died, he lost his business and he ended up living in his car. He didn't want to keep living. He couldn't see a reason to.

He met Sofia Graham and through her belief in him started changing his attitude. Through a gym membership gifted to him, he got his physical body back first, and then his mental one. Sofia and Kelly had the relationship that we all want. They built a dream together and empowered each other to go beyond their perceived limitations. And then, Sofia passed away suddenly in her sleep at the age of 28 due to a heart attack. No one knows why. Once again, Kelly had a painful setback.
