  • The Ghola Podcast Episode 2: Introduction

Note: When I mention that the framework is “non-logical” I mean that in a formal logic sense, meaning that the framework is not dependent on propositional logic. But it is quite logical, in fact, I would argue that the logic here is superior to strict systems of rules.

Make sure to also check out my writings on Substack. The first episode you can find on my Substack page. It is optional, but can help you see a concrete example of the framework in use.

  • The Ghola Podcast Episode 1: Intuition

Intuition is probably the most under-developed ability of the modern age. We have learned to rely too much on external knowledge that is passed down from a group of so called “experts.” Be that experts on science, faith, psychology, fitness, or any other subject matter. When we receive knowledge, we no longer evaluate it intuitively, what we end up evaluating instead is the expert’s credentials along with his or her organization. This is modeled on a parent-child relationship. The parent teaches unquestionable facts and dogmas to the child, and the child is forced to accept them without evaluation in order to avoid risking humiliation which the nervous system interprets as lack of safety.

In essence, this means that most of the knowledge you find in popular media and institutions had to be sanctioned by the authors either on purpose, or because of fear of rejection and humiliation. How can we know whether something is true or not then? Here is where intuition comes in. Intuition is what tells you that wings on a bird are important in order for it to fly. It is the faculty that tells you that songs in a minor key sound sad and dark, and songs in a major key sound happy and light. It is not to be mistaken by what science calls “logic.”

Logic is what is left of intuition when you take away its life-force. Intuition is relational, while pure logic is essentially reductive. An analogy can help make this clear. Think about logic as a mathematical model. A good mathematical model is sound under its own laws of logic, but it is worthless if not in the context of the thing that it is trying to model. Intuition is what brings the mathematical model and the thing the model is modeling together. However, even the analogy I have just made is insufficient in capturing what intuition is able to do.

The inner workings of intuition are a black box. Materialism cannot ever hope to understand intuition because studying intuition under a materialistic framework is a categorical error. Intuition is best understood under a philosophy that takes into account, feelings, empathy, and consciousness. That is a complex topic though, that deserves its own dedicated episode.

I hope I have made a compelling case as to why intuition is extremely important. Now the question is, how can someone improve his or her intuition? Well, the first thing you should do is become acquainted with your own self. You need to observe your own thinking and start identifying the interplay between feelings, symbols, and information processing. This is not an easy task, but you will never develop your intuition if you are liable to deceive yourself in order to avoid strong reactions.

The second thing you can do once you have become aware of your own thought patterns is emptying your assumptions. This one is probably even harder than the first. What I am asking you to do is essentially to discard, if only for a moment, all knowledge about the world that has been taught to you. Imagine you are you, but without your theories, your faith, your religion, your scientific knowledge, your upbringing, and your role in society.

Once you do that, the third thing you can do is observe an item of interest, it can be anything, a concept, a physical object, a person, the universe. See how the thing relates to its environment, see how it relates to you and to other living organisms. See how it makes you feel, but don’t act on those feelings and don’t use those feelings to create some label. Imagine what other things in reality correspond to that thing and start to correspond and connect those two things together.

Let’s end the episode with an example. I will do an intuitive analysis of the sea. I have dropped all preconceptions and assumptions of what the sea is, the scientific view of it, the religious view of it, and what any person has said about it. Let’s start with some basics:

    * When I look at the sea, I can understand it creates a type of threshold between more solid matter and formless liquid.

    * I can see that external forces affect it, be it living organisms or things like the wind and the sun’s heat.

    * I can see that it has some parts which are shallow and some parts which are deep.

    * The shallow parts you can see through and the light of the sun cuts through, but the deep parts become darker and steeper, more dangerous.

Now I have some basics, and can relate these to other things present in my experience.

    * The sea creates a threshold between two different things, solid and liquid. Solid things are more separate, individualistic, they behave predictably and their concreteness helps in understanding them. Liquid things are less predictable, they take the form of whatever contains them and work more relationally.

    * The connectedness of the sea, means that it is always in flux with other forces of nature and other organisms. This means it is not stable, and has a component of chaos and ever-present movement which is evident in the way it keeps creating waves that crash in the shore.

    * Living things are always moving, thus, the sea contains a force of primordial life.

    * The shallowness to depth indicates a progression from light to dark, from safe to dangerous. The darkness from the depths is all encompassing like the experience of closing my eyes. This means it relates to lack of conscious awareness. This could means connections to: sleep, death, visions, or other types of lightless phenomena.

    * When I close my eyes I sleep and I dream, this is a type of creation that comes from the dark.

    * The darkness of the deep sea is a force of creation.

All right, I hope this showed how intuition can lead to transcendent knowledge that can help you understand how the world really functions at both physical and spiritual levels. The example with the sea was a rough example that I made on the fly while writing this without thinking about it too much because I wanted to show you that intuitive knowledge does not need me to research expert opinions, scientific consensus, or any other sanctioned knowledge out there.

The philosophy I am working with (which I would argue is not a philosophy at all, it is just the natural process of discernment) is that we do not need anyone to tell us how the world truly works. Our senses and experience are all we need to understand what things really are. That is not to say that doing this is easy and infallible, at the contrary, this takes a lot of work especially since we have been filled to the brim with unintuitive knowledge and societal norms and expectations.

Practice intuitive thinking and the mysteries of the world will be revealed via pure experience.
