Diana Nyad is an author, keynote speaker, and world-recording holding swimmer who is the only person in human history to swim from Cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage. Her first attempt was in 1978. On September 2, 2013 on her 5th attempt (35 years later) she succeeded in swimming from Cuba to Key West, Florida (110-miles) after swimming 53 hours. She was 64 years old at the time she did what even medical experts said was impossible. She is now the co-founder with Bonnie Stoll of Ever Walk, an initiative to encourage Americans to be more healthy by walking more.
