good read -up to late

Put this one in your beach bag

This is one of those books that hooks you from the beginning and keeps you reading until the very end, twisting and turning with the characters and plot until you think you have everything figured out and then ... nope. Nothing is as it seems. This is a great summer read by the pool or the beach â just remember to put on the sunscreen before you start because you won't remember to once you are a few chapters in. Without giving away any of the plotting, this is a book along the lines of Behind Closed Doors, Gone Girl and Girl on the Train â starts with a scene and backs you into it through clever use of newspaper headlines, stories and the characters themselves. Set against the run-up to the global financial meltdown of 2008-2009, this is the story of another meltdown, much more personal and, in some ways, far more destructive. This book truly will take you on a roller-coaster ride and all the sounds of the kids at the pool or beachside will fade into oblivion as you come over the last hill and come crashing into the station, breathing hard and ready to be left off the exhilarating ride. This is a very good read that should be on your summer reading list.

A Fun Beach Read

I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.

Three different women with three totally different lives. Ellie is the party girl, hedonistic and extremely wild. Liz is the career girl, who is driven to make her way in the male-dominated workforce. She is the gym rat. The type-A, high strung business woman, and the polar opposite of Ellie. Then, as in all great triads, there is Betsy. Betsy is the comforter, the caretaker, and the one that just wants to make her friends feel better and grounded. These were all totally believable characters. I found myself identifying with a combination of Ellie and Betsy, but know so many Lizâs that I also could identify with her. For me, I enjoyed how in this novel, all of the characters were wonderfully flawed. There was no one âperfect character,â and for me, I enjoy that.

These women all want to âkeep up with the Jonesesâ so to speak, but they find that the pressure of life becomes almost unbearable as Liz loses her job, Betsyâs mother dies and Ellie is assaulted while out one night. There were many unexpected plot twists and turns, and it is hard to review the book without giving away spoilers.
