A Heartfelt Father's Day Reflection from Matt.
Not only is it okay to not feel ‘okay,’ it is essential. An abnormal emotional response to an abnormal situation IS normal. We cannot simply pick the emotions we want to have.
When we think we might lose something we care about, that’s sad. When we don’t know what to expect next, that’s scary. We should let ourselves, and other people in our lives, feel these things as they come up — which may be more than usual right now.
Allowing yourself not to feel ok involves accepting all feelings, thoughts, or sensations, and sitting with them until they pass. If you try to avoid, suppress, or ignore them, they will only grow stronger and leave you overwhelmed and believing that you cannot cope.
What is self-doubt, exactly? In its most basic form, self-doubt manifests itself as a lack of confidence in yourself or your abilities. If you're consistently plagued by persistent self-doubt, it’s a good idea to take a step back and recognize the negative impact it may be having on your life or career. This is an honest, no bullish** conversation about the effects of self-doubt with a friend of The Glass House, Desimond Antley.
Handling criticism is a difficult but necessary part of your private or professional life. In the workplace, you will frequently have to hear and digest criticism from a supervisor, manager, or other coworkers. To use their criticism to improve, you need to know how to listen, understand and apply their suggestions. In life, you will hear and digest criticism from your family and friends. Taking constructive criticism from others is required to get to the next level. There is only one way to avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.
When we embark on the voyage of new relationships, there is a high tide of emotions and expectations. Intimate relationships are designed to be at the least safe. Safe to be yourself, safe to love without limits, and essentially a place where your established exclusiveness is understood and respected.
A broken heart isn’t planned and often not expected. When there is an agreement and when someone steps out — it hurts. In a way, it can shatter someone. We often don’t discuss the lasting scars being stepped out on causes.
In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about the traumatic experience that infidelity causes and hopefully, helpful tools to navigate through it.
When we are young children, we don’t usually have a clear understanding of what is going on and how it may have a traumatic effect on us growing up. Childhood trauma happens when children are exposed to distressing or emotionally painful events. This can include events like actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence. Childhood trauma not only occurs when a child experiences an event themselves but also when a child is exposed to traumatic events.
The crew is joined by wardrobe stylist and writer Imani Anisa. Imani talks about navigating life through unrelenting obstacles while finding the beauty in opportunity.
