Loksan Harley joins The Global Shuffle for this week’s episode. We originally met at McGill during our undergrad and since then he has done incredible work around the world in the area of policy and technical assistance. He now works as a freelancer and shares his experience pursuing this path.

He stares stories related to his time working in Burkina Faso, working with female entrepreneurs in North Korea and details the lessons he’s learned working as part of the foreign aid ecosystem.

Lucas joins the podcast amidst a surge of interest in Colombia across the world. The Netflix drama “Narcos” has brought renewed attention to the drug cartels and the era of Pablo Escobar. Lucas grew up in Medellin during this time, and provides a more well-rounded perspective on that part of Colombia’s history.

In addition Colombia has been working towards a peace deal with the FARC over the past few years, which was recently voted down in a referendum. Lucas explains some of the factors that led to this as well as his hopes for the future consultations.

Finally Lucas provides his thoughts on what he wants you to know about Colombia today.

Ben Thomson joins The Global Shuffle Podcast back in Ottawa, after a few years in Thailand where he founded his startup CLUB 3.
