John's opening to his gospel is a glorious overture to all the great things he is going to write about Jesus. The Word is God, our creator, our life and light, rejected by humankind, but making children of God of those who believe. He is full of glory, grace and truth, the One and Only that we are called, like John the Baptist, to bear witness to in the world.
