The antitheses are six apparently contrary saying made by Jesus as part of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus contrasts "You have heard it said" with "But I say", teasing out the real meaning of some fundamental commands of the Old Testament and challenges those who follow Him to "be perfect as your hreavenly Father is perfect".

Pastor Mike Weaver closes the series on Malachi with ‘final words’, highlighting the distinct difference between the righteous and the wicked in the eyes of the Lord. Ultimately, none of us are holy and blameless and can all fall into the category of wickedness. Yet, Malachi points out a remnant, faithful to the Lord, who will be known on the day of the Lord, as he also points forward to Jesus, through the Elijah figure of John the Baptist.

The penultimate week in the oracles of Malachi challenge the listener or reader to ‘not rob God’ but instead to return to God. The original hearers of Malachi’s words continued to not engage well with the LORD, almost blind to their indifference to the relationship God desires for them. Pastor Mike challenges you today to think about what in your life you are offering to the God, and whether in fact you are, or are not short changing Him.

How many of us have been worn down with questioning children who ask ' why' over and over and over again looking to a parent to give them answers. Childish inquisitiveness and immaturity can be excused if rather wearying but what excuse is there for the children of Israel who stubbornly resist their heavenly Father's correction and discipline, whilst being reminded of the covenant he has made with them and ask him over and over 'but how?' This week they take it a step further in their maligning of God's character and there is a sigh from heaven, 'You have wearied the Lord with your words, saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them" - WHERE IS THE GOD OF JUSTICE!" Do they really want justice, do they not realise justice begins with the people of God. By pointing to others to blame they forget there are three fingers pointing back at themselves. We may want justice when it comes to the errors of others but when a mirror is turned upon ourselves revealing our sin, our mistakes, its not justice we cry out for but mercy. Do you want justice or mercy this is what we going to think about in this weeks podcast.
