A Leap of Faith: Testimony of Surrender and Trust
Kimba’s journey begins with what she describes as the most terrifying and liberating decision of her life—taking a leap of faith that required her to surrender everything she thought she knew about control and security. As she shared with Bryan, “Sometimes God calls us to jump before we can see where we’re going to land.” This wasn’t just a casual decision; this was a complete abandonment of her own plans in favor of trusting God’s perfect timing and provision.
The conversation revealed how Kimba faced moments where she had to choose between her own understanding and God’s calling. She beautifully referenced Isaiah 55:8-9, reminding us that “’For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” This Scripture became her anchor during seasons when nothing made sense from a human perspective.
Overcoming Adversity: When Trials Become Your Teacher
One of the most powerful aspects of Kimba’s testimony was her raw honesty about facing overwhelming challenges. She didn’t sugarcoat the pain or pretend that faith makes everything easy. Instead, she shared how adversity became one of her greatest teachers, shaping her character and deepening her dependence on God.
“The storms in our lives aren’t meant to destroy us,” Kimba explained during the episode. “They’re meant to reveal what we’re truly built on.” This perspective shift transformed how she approached every trial that followed. Instead of asking “Why me?” she began asking “What are You trying to teach me through this, Lord?”
Her reference to Ecclesiastes 1:18 was particularly striking: “For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.” Kimba acknowledged that spiritual growth often comes with increased sensitivity to the brokenness around us, but she emphasized that this grief can coexist with profound joy when we understand our purpose in God’s greater plan.
To everyone walking through adversity right now: take heart. As believers, we cling to the hope that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28).
The Daily Art of Surrender in Challenging Times
Perhaps the most moving part of the conversation was when Kimba opened up about learning to surrender during her darkest seasons. Bryan asked her about the practical aspects of surrender—how do you actually let go when everything in you wants to fight and control the outcome?
Kimba’s answer was both simple and profound: “Surrender isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily choice. Some days, I had to surrender hourly. Some moments, I had to surrender breath by breath.” She shared how Psalm 27:4 became her daily meditation: “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.”
This wasn’t passive resignation, she clarified, but active trust. It meant waking up each morning and consciously placing her fears, her dreams, her expectations, and her pain into God’s capable hands. The beauty of her testimony lies in how she learned to find peace not in her circumstances changing, but in the unchanging character of God.
Finding Joy in Trials and the Valley of Suffering
One of the most remarkable aspects of Kimba’s story is how she discovered joy in the midst of genuine suffering. This wasn’t toxic positivity or denial of pain, but something much deeper—a joy rooted in eternal perspective and divine purpose.
She referenced Habakkuk 3:17-18, a passage that became her anthem during the hardest seasons: “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
“Joy,” Kimba explained, “isn’t dependent on our circumstances being perfect. It’s found in knowing that our God is perfect, even when our situation isn’t.” This perspective allowed her to experience what she calls “sacred suffering”—pain that has purpose because it’s filtered through God’s loving hands.
Consider praying through James 1:2-4 over your situation today:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
Beautiful Rain: Renewal, Refining, and Spiritual Growth
One of the most beautiful moments in the episode was when Kimba and Bryan discussed the symbolism of rain in her spiritual journey. Kimba shared how she began to see the storms in her life as “beautiful rain”—painful in the moment but essential for growth and renewal.
“Rain can be uncomfortable, cold, and inconvenient,” she reflected, “but without it, nothing grows. The same is true with the storms God allows in our lives.” This imagery became a powerful metaphor for how she learned to embrace difficulty as a necessary part of spiritual development.
She described standing in literal rain during one of her lowest moments and feeling God speak to her heart about how He uses the uncomfortable seasons to prepare soil for new growth. This revelation changed everything about how she approached hardship, transforming her from someone who endured trials to someone who could find beauty and purpose in them.
Living Out True Discipleship: Following Jesus Daily
The conversation naturally led to a discussion about what it means to be a true disciple in today’s world. Kimba referenced Luke 9:23, where Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
For Kimba, discipleship became less about religious performance and more about daily surrender and authentic relationship with Christ. She shared how her trials stripped away the superficial aspects of her faith and revealed what was truly essential—a heart fully surrendered to God’s will.
“Discipleship,” she explained, “isn’t about having all the answers or never struggling. It’s about staying close to Jesus especially when you don’t understand what He’s doing.” This perspective transformed her approach to ministry and relationships, making her testimony incredibly relatable and encouraging to others facing similar struggles.
