Today's episode is a talk I did during informal dialogues on a new UN treaty to protect the biodiversity of the high seas. The meeting was co-organized by the Nobel Institute and I took this opportunity to explain to the UN negotiators what FPIC means and how it applies to traditional and indigenous knowledge. You probably know that I am pro empowerment of indigenous delegates at the international level. Today's episode you get to hear me in a piece of a conversation with Tomo Harada where I'm reflecting on being a leader of indigenous delegates focused on the Article 6 negotiations at the UN climate summit in Madrid in 2019. On today's episode I’m very glad that Minnie Degawan, Kankanay-Igorot from the Cordillera region in the Philippines had the time to join me. Minnie was super passionate about justice from a very early age. As she cannot imagine herself working for the government, she started very early working at the community level, was one of the Asia representatives during the negotiations on the UNDRIP at the international level, and transitioned to the nonprofit level where she is at right now as Director of the Indigenous and Traditional Peoples Program at Conservation International.
