The Good Flight

Dr. Gabriel Kocher, aka Gab707 is always innovating the world of FPV drones, and it's only ever for himself. What do we mean by that? When Gab has a problem that he wants to have solved, he goes out of his way and finds a way to solve it. His passion for drones started when he wanted to take more photography, and drones were the only way to get over the trees to see what's beyond. That mentality carried over into the rest of his career.. Need to sample whale snot? Engineer it. Need to win a race? Engineer it. We at Good Flight have always been inspired by Gab's journey, and now we get to take you on it along with us.

This week on the podcast we have two guests. The first is Straw Hat Sam, creator of "Le Pigeon", which is a drone frame designed to carry a stripped down Black Magic Pocket Cinema 4k camera. Then, our second set of guests is your co-host Jonny Drones as well as THE drone diddler, "G". The four of us discuss both "Le Pigeon" as well as how John Oliver LITERALLY blew up Jonny Drones' drone on "Last Week Tonight."

Daniel Riley aka RCTestFlight has been in the RC game from the very early days. Whether it was building foamies, flying super powered LED lights, or dropping pumpkins from an Alta X, Daniel has tried it all. We've always been inspired by his creativity and process of telling a story, including failures and showing successes along all of his journeys. We are so proud to have him on the show, and I think you'll enjoy listening to what he has to say.

Cinelifters are a new class of FPV drone that have started up in the last year or two designed to carry heavier, higher quality cameras like the Black Magic Pocket Cinema or Red Komodo. We believe that this trend was initially kicked off with X-Class-style drones, but drones like the Thicc/Siccario/Moneyshot have taken over the industry, and we wanted to talk about them and what it means for all of us.

Co-hosts Jon Graham and Paul Nurkkala have been away from the podcasting scene for a little bit. Life got busy over quarantine in ways that we didn't expect, and we are now back and ready to rock. Part of our problem was that we made the filming process a little too complicated on ourselves, so we've simplified the process, and that will hopefully allow us to put more time and effort into the podcast that we want to produce!

Thank you, Alex Kavanagh (@drone.pilot)(@dronegear), for jumping on camera to discuss what it's like to travel the world with drones. In 2019 Alex and his fiance filmed in over 18 countries, like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Patagonia, and Switzerland, while finding the time to work on professional film sets in Los Angeles. With over ten years of professional drone experience, Alex, Jon, and Paul trade war stories of live motorsports broadcast to someone flying a drone into an actress's face (she's ok). The Youtube version includes many videos discussed in the show.

Special thanks to Austin at L.A. Drones for always hooking it up, Tiffen Filters, Western Digital, Drone Gear Productions, and Alex's new production company MEDIA STORY GROUP!
