We all need somebody to watch over us. There are many dangers in the world, and we need someone to protect us. Ultimately, there is only one person who we can rely on, God. In particular, the Lord Jesus says that he is the Good Shepherd, in contrast to others who want to cause harm. Jesus says in Luke 19:28-44 that he has come to give us life, and to give it to us abundantly. This verse, as quoted by the Apostle John (in John 10:10) is on our header on our blog. It represents the purpose of Jesus in coming into the world, and why as the Good Shepherd he has laid down his life for his sheep, so that we can be forgiven and reconciled to God and enjoy the fullness of life that is in the Lord Jesus. Also, his sheep hear his voice, just like the dog who heard his master’s voice on a gramophone many years ago. Believers must therefore be attentive to the Lord’s Word, following him where he leads, although he will nevertheless come to the rescue of those who wander.
