In 2 Samuel 24, David commits the sin of pride by ordering a census of Israel and Judah, disregarding God's will. This act displeases the Lord, leading Him to offer David a choice of three punishments. After repenting, David chooses a pestilence that affects the land. As a result, 70,000 people die, and David pleads for mercy. In this episode, we look not just at the facts but also where they lead.

“The world is like a drunken peasant. If you lift him into the saddle on one side, he will fall off on the other side. One can’t help him, no matter how one tries. He wants to be the devil’s” (LW 54:111). Even God’s people can mimic the world like this, living as reactionaries. In this episode, we look at tools, technology, and AI and seek to stay on the horse.

Authenticity is the watchword of our day. Keeping it real. In preaching, “keeping it real” includes more then just the preacher’s authenticity. It means keeping the real presence of Christ in His preached Word front and center. In this episode, we look at Luther’s insistence upon this, but also how to do it.
