We see this so clearly in the story of Elisha. When the king of Syria discovered that Elisha was revealing his plans to the king of Israel, he sent a great army with horses and chariots to surround the city where Elisha was staying.

When Elisha's servant saw the army, he cried out, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"

But Elisha saw what his servant could not yet see. He said, "Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." Then Elisha prayed, "Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see."

And when the servant's eyes were opened, he saw the mountain filled with horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha.

The circumstances were real. The danger was real. But so was the presence of God.

When God led the Israelites out of Egypt, He didn’t take them by the shortest or easiest route. He knew what they didn’t know—that the longer road was actually the better road. God understood what they would face, what they could handle, and what might cause them to turn back.

And in His goodness, He didn’t leave them wondering which way to go. He gave them a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, clearly guiding them when to move and when to stop.

Sometimes the closed door we’re frustrated about is actually God’s protection. Sometimes the detour is His direction. And sometimes what feels like a setback is really the pathway God has chosen for our good.
