An episode from 2/26/21: In this last episode on Egyptian mythology, I read from Herodotus's account of Egyptian embalming and mummification practices, followed by a summing up of the Egyptian myth episodes.
The translation of Herodotus used is the Landmark Herodotus; the essays I read from can be found in The Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt, and the entries on "Mythological Texts" and "Mythology"; the grumpy Egypt-hater's remarks can be found in the introduction to his volume in the Mythology of All Races.
Other episodes on Egyptian mythology are here.
Don’t forget to support Human Voices Wake Us on Substack, where you can also get our newsletter and other extras. You can also support the podcast by ordering any of my books: Notes from the Grid, To the House of the Sun, The Lonely Young & the Lonely Old, and Bone Antler Stone.
Any comments, or suggestions for readings I should make in later episodes, can be emailed to [email protected].
