The Great Tide 31.01.1953 Flood Disaster (Eastern England)
The Great Tide was the worst peace-time natural disaster in British history, devastated the East Coast of England, particularly Essex. More than 300 people died, more than a third of those in Essex. The floods also devastated the low-lying Netherlands and Belgium with the loss of many hundreds more lives.
This documentary was broadcast on BBC Essex in 2003 - an updated version using interviews recorded in 1992. Producer: Anton Jarvis, Interviewers Anton Jarvis & Ray Clark.
