The inception of the podcast comes from years of putting a playlist together that represents me. It’s essentially the soundtrack of my life. Whenever I add a song, whether new or old, it gets shuffled in with the rest. Each time a “new” song plays, I find myself thinking “This is the greatest playlist ever!” Of course, everyone’s playlist is the greatest playlist ever, or at least that’s what we’re all trying to achieve as our ultimate playlist goal.
Joining with DJ Substance, I knew he would not only have his own “greatest playlist ever”, but additional musical insight and history of the artists and songs he has collected. Combined, I feel we bring a wide range of music from the last several decades. Each episode is just a couple of old friends sharing music like we used to, only virtually.
Then we leave it to our listeners. We each bring 2 songs to each episode, with no set time or genre. We’d like the listener to listen to each song and judge it on its own merit with the other 3 songs. Forget the biases of who the artist is, what decade it was released, or what genre of music it is. Just, “which song sounds the best to you?” Each “winner” will move into a future podcast, and eventually we will compile a listener based top 100.
