If you have read the Crimzon and Clover short stories, you will know that Master Zarvin is the kind, old wizard who took Clover in and taught her how to harness the magic she wields. These stories predate all but the first two Crimzon and Clover short stories and even feature the dragon Royal from the Locus Poll-nominated international best-selling YA hit The Dragoneer Saga. These tales are for readers ages seven and up, but if you have read the Dragoneer Saga or just The Royal Dragoneers, you will want to find out this bit about Prince Richard's mighty dragon and where it came from. Just because these stories are YA doesn't mean they are only for young readers. After all, people who read fantasy are always young at heart.

It All Comes Together

Dingo the dwarf, Igor the eagle, and Oonzil Windlestraw come together to embark upon a difficult and dangerous quest. Up to this point I had wondered how the first two books in the series related, but this made everything make sense. I enjoyed getting to know what the respective parties were like before coming together. My only disappointment was that the quest, while beset with a troll, did not seem epic and resolved rather quickly. I'd have loved to read more peril, but that's just me.

As with books one and two, Mathias does a masterful job of world-building. A quick, but enjoyable read.
