Down ballot on Election day is a race for four at-large positions on Wilmington City Council. The city charter allows no more than three to come from one political party, and since registered Democrats heavily outnumber Republicans in Wilmington – the three Democrats on the ballot are likely to earn seats. That leaves three GOP candidates hoping to become - in all likelihood - the only Republican on city council.

Discussions about work to address education issues in the First State often focus on school leaders, Dept. of Education officials and lawmakers or groups created by them, like the Redding Consortium. But there are others trying to make a difference – parents, private citizens and grassroots groups that advocate for change. Over the next two weeks, Delaware Public Media contributor Larry Nagengast looks at that latter group - then and now. This week, he checks in with some fighting the fight

Like most other states, Delaware has received a flood of unemployment claims since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The state’s monthly unemployment rate was 10.5 percent in August after peaking at 15.8 percent in May. And it is still much higher than the 3.9 percent rate reported this time last year. Delaware Public Media’s Nick Ciolino recently spoke with Delaware Division of Unemployment Director Daryl Scott about the state’s various efforts to pay jobless benefits.
