250 years ago, “Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania to the Inhabitants of the British Colonies” were published. The series of 12 letters appeared throughout the winter of 1768 in colonial newspapers, laying out the Colonies’ common cause against The British Crown and Parliament in an effort to create unifying message to rally around. Delaware’s League of Women Voters recently sponsored a panel discussion in Sussex County to shed some light on this $150 billion worldwide industry, and its prevalence in the First State.

State Treasurer Ken Simpler has taken an active role in speaking about the state’s recent budget issues -- and is advocating for what he calls a Grand Bargain. He says lawmakers from both parties should come together to overhaul the state’s budget process - and create more predictability and sustainability. Artesian Water Resources has been given the go-ahead by the state to construct a new wastewater storage facility north of Milton. Once it’s finished, poultry giant Allen Harim will stop discharging its treated wastewater into Beaverdam Creek and will send it to Artesian’s facility instead.
