A number of historic buildings – from the Thomas England House, to Summerton Mansion in Middletown – have been demolished in recent months. Historic preservation advocates are rallying to change that, and nonprofit Preservation Delaware is willing to help organize such efforts in the First State. Delaware Public Media’s Megan Pauly sat down with the group’s Executive Director James Hanby.

On Aug. 21, millions of people throughout the United States will be treated to a total solar eclipse, a rare-occurring event when the moon passes in front of the sun and day turns to night for just a few minutes. Rock retaining walls hold back rising seas at Port Mahon Road in the Dover area, but they also inadvertently hold something else back: turtles. Turtles trying to reach their nests to lay eggs have to climb over these rocks, often getting stuck in the process. One solution floated this summer to solve this problem is a pair of tunnels beneath the rocks.

Two months ago, Maryland regulators signed off on the state’s first two offshore wind farms. There’s a catch, though. One of them is directly off the coast of Delaware, filling the space that was once expected to be home to the nation’s first ocean-going wind project. Delaware’s legislative year ended in unprecedented fashion. Without a budget deal, lawmakers blew past the June 30 th deadline for passing a spending plan.
