  • Ep 29: How to Get Over The Impostor Syndrome

If you’ve ever felt like you’re undeserving of your current success, incompetent, or “not good enough” for your clients or your company, remember that this feeling is not something you solely experience.

Even doctors, engineers, award-winning professionals, and all those highly-successful people in our eyes may experience the impostor syndrome at some point in their life.

I’ll share with you great tips on overcoming this and what you can do every time you feel like your thoughts are on overdrive for negative talk.

    • [2:54] 70% of people feel like impostors in their profession.
  • [4:35] I would land these big contracts, and I would feel like I duped the client, I'd feel like I wasn’t qualified.
  • [6:13] How do we deal with this impostor syndrome that sometimes just takes control of our lives?
  • [8:07] We are so concerned about what other people think about us.
  • [11:52] Acknowledge yourself for where you are and what you’ve achieved, and your expertise.
  • [13:02] Acknowledge yourself for the amazing things that you’ve done.
  • [15:10]  Recognize how you’ve helped other people.
  • [15:58] The reason that we feel like impostors is because we feel like what we do isn’t helping other people on the level that we think.
  • [17:29] You should be collecting testimonials from your clients. Ask them in what way has this helped you. How was this product, how was this service?
  • [17:51] Get it to know what’s valuable.
  • [19:28]  Don’t teach what you don’t know.
  • [20:05] If you don’t know something, find somebody who does.
  • [23:18] Acknowledge and replace those negative thoughts. Think about where those thoughts are coming from.
  • [24:44] It’s okay to get that feedback, but don’t let it define you.
  • [27:48]  You’re not an impostor. You may feel that way sometimes, but you have to remind yourself that there’s greatness within you. You have knowledge of information that people need and want.
  • [29:01 ]Feeling like an impostor is temporary.

  • Ep 28: Service to Others is Service To You

Have you been of service to people recently? Do you remember how you felt afterward?

If you’ve been hesitant about reaching out, helping others, and volunteering time or skills for the benefit of someone else, then listen in so you could learn about the reasons why your service is as important to others and yourself.

    • [6:38] When you decide to be of service to other people, it benefits you even if you’re stuck even if you’re struggling.
  • [10:02] It helped them either see themselves in my stories or avoid the mistakes that I had made.
  • [10:21] Help other people move to those challenges.
  • [10:30] Helps us find more meaning and purpose when we can’t see it.
  • [11:39] Get out there and help other people.
  • [13:19] It was rewarding for me because it was something that I loved to do.
  • [15:47] This all happened because I wanted to be of service to other people.
  • [17:56] It was just something that grew and grew until finally, she was able to quit her job and open a location.
  • [18:12] That was just something she enjoyed doing. She was doing it to help her friends out.
  • [18:33] You may be out helping others, volunteering, using your skills and your talents to help people. It could turn out into a side hustle or a full out business.
  • [18:47 ] You can’t find that if you never choose to do something different. If you never step outside of your comfort zone, if you don’t stretch yourself.
  • [19:04] That’s what growth is. You want to grow as a person. You want to become a better version of yourself.
  • [19:51] You learn to find that one gift within yourself that maybe you didn’t realize.
  • [20:03] Volunteering has opened things within me that I never knew that was just there.
  • [21:04] I think that so many of us have so much to give. We stop ourselves because we don’t believe that the information we have is valuable.
  • [21:35] Don’t hold back. Do whatever you feel comfortable doing.

  • Ep 27: When To Quit Your Job

Have you ever found yourself asking why you feel stuck in your current job? Do you feel like there could be something more to what you’re doing?

Quitting can be hard especially when you have a long list of reasons why you shouldn’t try, leave, or change your current status. But honestly, you’ll never know what’s out there until you take action and finally take that leap.

    • [3:16] It wasn’t easy transitioning out of being a full-time employee, because that was all I knew.
  • [6:27] I knew I had tok get out of there but I didn’t know how.
  • [6:46] I didn't know how to start a side hustle. I didn’t know how to start the business.
  • [7:35] Sometimes we have to look at situations that occur in our life as signs.
  • [9:40] It didn’t matter how hard I worked.
  • [13:48] We all know when it’s time for us to leave but we just don’t know how.
  • [14:35] What’s holding you back from leaving that job?
  • [14:53] You never know until you take action.
  • [14:57] So many of us start with how we can’t, instead of what we want, and why we want it.
  • [16:30] If you know in your heart that you want something else. That you want to be working in a different environment.
  • [16:50] Sit down right and write some things that you can do to change your situation.
  • [17:35] Stop talking yourself out of the things you deserve.
  • [19:02] I guess I just mustered up enough courage to just try.
  • [20:58] We have to take that leap.
  • [22:23] What do you want and what are you willing to do to get it?

  • Ep 26: Stop Asking Permission, Start Giving Notice

How many times have your close friends or loved ones tried to talk you out of taking action or pursuing your goals and dreams?

“I think it's too hard for you to do that” or “I don't think you should try that because it might not work out”

    Sound familiar?

Too often others try to talk us out of doing something we want to do to better ourselves and level up our lives. Or they simply hate on us for even attempting to make our dreams a reality.

In this episode, we are going to break down why people don't believe in us and how we can shift in our mindset to stop listening to them and our inner critic and to make the leap towards our dreams.

If you're ready to start believing in your goals and dreams again, listen to this episode!

    • [3:43] Sometimes, you’re curious about things, and you never act on them.
  • [4:21] You learn from failing.
  • [6:40] Have you ever told a friend or family member about a goal that you had, and then they tried to talk you out of it? They would tell you all the reasons why it was so hard to achieve that.
  • [8:25] One of two things happens when you go out there and chase your goals and dreams. When they see you out here putting up the work, they realize they have to step up and level up their game.
  • [9:00] The other time, they’d hate on you and try to talk you out of it because they’re not willing to level up their game. And they know that being around you is going to make them feel awkward and inadequate.
  • [10:12] You have to stop focusing on other people and focus on you.
  • [13:31] They’re afraid that once you have this awakening, they feel like they’re getting left behind.
  • [14:54] It’s almost as if we are asking them for permission. We want them to validate what we’re going to do. We have to stop expecting people to be that and be that for ourselves.
  • [15:34] Nobody owes us anything.
  • [16:00] If you have a gift or a talent, or if you’re pursuing something that you’re curious and passionate about.
  • [18:30] You have to be crystal clear on what you want.
  • [20:01] There’s a difference between “should” and “must.”
  • [20:10] Now, you have to know why it is a must.
  • [21:45]Once I got clear of all those things, and why they were all a must, then it was difficult for me to talk myself out of it.
  • [25:45] Progress equals belief.

  • Ep 24: 5 Reasons You Will Want to Teach Online Courses

Do you ever think about starting a side hustle or online business?

Do you wish you had more freedom and fulfillment in your life?

In this episode, I break down why selling online courses is a great way to turn your knowledge into profit and make a greater impact in the world. Now is the perfect time to make extra cash selling online courses because more and more people are learning online.

You have knowledge, information, experience and stories that people need right now. I break down 5 reasons why you should start teaching online courses right now.

    • Why aren’t more people taking the knowledge, skills, experiences that they have, teach other people and make money doing it?
  • I was making other people money by training and consulting, but I wasn’t doing it for myself.
  • You don’t even need to have a training or teaching background to be able to deliver courses and programs, and make a great impact into their lives. You don’t have to have that background.
  • People will pay for information when it solves their problem or it gives them a shortcut to the goal that they have.
  • If you can package what you know, what you’re passionate about, your skills, experiences or stories, in a way that is bite size, where people can really understand it, then they’ll want to pay for that.
  • If you teach online, it’s limitless.
  • You can start a side hustle, you develop it one time, and you make money out of it forever.
  • I made money while I’ve been on vacation, while I’ve been sick, while I was doing other things because the course was online and available for people to purchase anytime.
  • I was selling courses while I had a full-time job.
  • I can make a greater impact in the world because my courses reach people all over the world. I’m helping people to solve their problems. I’m making money doing it in an ethical way.

  • Ep 23: Media Minded with Fenella Bruce

In a world where everyone is fighting for attention on social media, mainstream media and online, how do you get your message or story out to the masses?

In this episode, Coach Stone speaks with Fenella Bruce, a veteran television producer and writer, and Founder of FKB Media Solutions – a media consulting company that finds solutions for media problems. She shares great tips to help you get mainstream media coverage.

Fennella has worked in the field of journalism for over 20 years and produced both Canada’s national morning shows – Your Morning and Canada AM. Fenella was also a senior writer or producer at numerous major market television stations, including CTV News Channel, CP24, CityTv, Toronto 1, and BET. For six years, she taught Media Theory at Centennial College and served on many critique juries, including the Canadian Screen Awards and The New York Festivals International TV Broadcasting Awards.

She talks about leaping from journalism to production and how these are two intertwined with each other. She also talks about why there is nothing wrong with doing something else as long as you enjoy it, and you love the challenge. Fenella also mentions how black people don't have enough exposure in the media, especially in lead roles and positions behind the camera.

If you have a dream or you are searching for your dream, listen to this episode.

Here are a few more highlights from our conversation:

    • [10:39] Never burn your bridges.
  • [11:29] As a journalist, you genuinely have to be an expert on everything.
  • [11:47] When you are writing, you have to be able to summarize things very quickly.
  • [12:18] The writer gets to interact with everyone, the reporters, the camera person, the editors, and the assignment desk.
  • [12:32] Most writers go into producing because once you know what everybody does and how it works, that is the first step to becoming a producer.
  • [12:55] You have to be able to write if you are a good producer.
  • [13:47] That is what people think about journalism, you are in front of the camera, or you are writing a story. But I did not realize so many other roles until I started volunteering in the newsroom that were open to me and that I should consider.
  • [14:04] Producers are decision-makers. They are gatekeepers.
  • [14:35] If you have a good team and a team that respects you, then it is not a difficult job.
  • [20:51] You want to be in the space, so people see you, and when an opportunity comes up, they think about you.
  • [21:10 ] A lot of people do not understand the power of mentorship. It is the power of getting in the same space as people who are already doing what you are doing.
  • [21:57] You have got to keep your eye on the prize.
  • [22:37] I am not afraid to speak to people. I am not afraid to put myself out there and take feedback. I want to learn.
  • [32:01] If you decide to ease in into doing something else, you could always come back to doing what you were doing.
  • [32:48] There is no shame in going back.
  • [32:54] If I can do my job as well as I was doing for someone else and make these companies millions of dollars, then I can do that for me.
  • [33:04] You have to be able to bet on yourself.
  • [34:40] What you need to do is sit down, figure out how much you need to make for a month, set that as your goal, look at what you can do, and how you can get that goal, and then you do from there.
  • [35:08] When you have that monthly goal, it does not seem as daunting to you.
  • [35:41] Many of us give up on our dreams and goals because we do not think it is possible. But we have not sat down and mapped things out.
  • [37:38] I tell people when things do not work. I am not going to act like everything is all great.
  • [39:05] Sometimes, you can do something just for the love of it.
  • [40:01] It was either do it now or don’t do it at all.
  • [45:46] If you find the right people and train them properly, you can relieve a lot for you.
  • [49:21] Auntie Jillian is Canada’s first Black Caribbean reality tv show.
  • [51:57] A lot of shows or people, Candian personalities, are the same people. We do not see any fresh new faces.
  • [53:43] When everybody looks the same, then you’re not going to get anything different. You’re going to get the same stuff, and that’s what you’re getting in Canadian Television.
  • [1:00:47] It’s all about your work ethic and being open.
  • [1:04:05] Make sure that your package is right.
  • [1:04:42] Ensure that your website reflects what you’re doing, up to date, with good content, easy to navigate, and shows what you want to do.
  • [1:10:00] You want to make sure you’re targeting the right person, and then you want to send what’s called the “pitch.”
  • [1:10:19] You have to be careful because sometimes you’ll just get shrugged off to advertising, so there has to be something distinctive about you.
  • [1:11:48] The easier you can make it for the reporter or the producer to visually see your story, the easier it will be for you to get your story in.
  • [1:16:23] When you’re working from home, you can continuously work. And so, you have to learn to draw that line.
  • [1:18:07] That’s part of grinding, where you can’t let things set you back.
  • [1:19:55] Set an attitude of gratitude.
  • [1:20:08] Gratitude is not just about saying thank you when somebody does something for you. It’s about saying thank you even when they haven’t done something for you.
