It's a deeper discussion about how spending time with yourself, being comfortable in that time, and even ENJOYING that time is intricately connected to how we value ourselves.

Over the years, I've coached 100s of women, and most of them say they want to lose weight, but they tell me it's most important to "feel better."

When I ask what that means to them, they tell me about a desire for an increase in energy, liking who and what they see in the mirror, wanting to be more active...

And the list goes on.

Then they get into the journey. They're proud choices they're making, and they start to feel better.

But they step on the scale each day looking for a drop in the number.

When that doesn't happen - and by several pounds every single week - they'll say things like, "I only lost 1 (or 2) pounds this week."

Tell me if this sounds like you:

Having difficult conversations can be one of the most anxiety ridden activities we participate in, and we may avoid them all together.

We tend to just see our point of view and our perspective without taking into consideration and acting on empathy on the other person's position and perspective.

Not having these difficult conversations will eat at you slowly and may start to erode your self-confidence and your position wherever you are.

Let's talk about a topic that often goes unnoticed in our busy lives - the intersection of menopause and stress.

Looking back at my childhood or "my raising" as we say in Texas [smile], one lesson I learned goes something like this:

"The harder you work, the better person you are." Or more plainly… Hard working people are "good" people.

As I talk to women in their 40's and beyond, this mentality of equating work and "value" often crops up.

And frankly, it's keeping women like you from living your fullest life.

It's not that I believe working "hard" is a bad thing. But we glorify "work" and "effort" when we put everything into advancing our careers and raising our families.

However, when we redirect some of that work and we begin to prioritize ourselves, then we feel immense guilt.

I share my thoughts on this concept and how it affects our feelings of self-worth along with a story about understanding how many keys come with a new job and why that's important.

I end with a mini-assignment for you to consider. Doing it will help you find evidence of whether or not your "work" currently reflects what you truly value. And you can begin making changes accordingly.

I'll be real with you: I've made some dumb decisions in the past and I believe one of the biggest things I regret is trying to force things rather than learning from life.

Whether you believe in God or a higher power, my guess is you've prayed for something to happen in your life to the point where you're almost trying to force it to happen. I've made this mistake (over and over) too, and I've learned a great deal from changing my perspective.

I've instead changed the way I approach certain situations and ask, "What can I learn from this?" This reframing of my approach has opened the door to so many great insights and perspectives I wouldn't have had otherwise.
