Remember the feeling of fastening your nametag around your lanyard and excitedly making your way into a crowded hall to see a much-buzzed-about keynote kick off your industry’s professional conference? Yeah, a lot of us don’t either. Two+ years into the pandemic that forced even the most expertly planned conferences to scramble into virtual mode, we are just beginning to work our way back into the physical spaces of professional conferences - and the GLG is right there with you to help you re-enter the dense jungle that can be ed-conferences.

For anyone who watched the irreverent 90s sitcom “Married With Children”, you know the theme song (courtesy of Frank Sinatra) that states: “Love and Marriage…go together like a horse and carriage.” Well, what does it look like when you combine the traditional “love/marriage/family” trajectory with a genuine love and passion for educating others? What even are the horse and carriage in this scenario? Which comes first? And who’s driving anyways? Join us for a closer look at Teaching….With Children… on the GLG.

We’ve all heard before that the only constant in life is change. But this podcast is about highly functioning teams and what do you do when the very guild that brings you happiness, security, and professional success is the thing that’s subject to change?
Whether you’re the type to address such a change with the go-getter optimism of Parks and Rec’s Leslie Knope or the side-eye reluctance of their April Ludgate, at some point or another, a change is gonna come. So if you’re finding yourself in a season of change, treat yo self - maybe even to a waffle or 2 - and join us for this week’s episode where we dish on the guild’s personal and professional changes in our very own network connectivity.

It’s hard to find an educator or coach who hasn’t been charmed by the Apple TV+ hit series Ted Lasso. What initially appeared to viewers as a silly fish-out-of-water tale of an American football coach making the move to coaching Premier League team Richmond United in England, has surprised us all with its empathy and depth while still bringing the laughs and quotable lines in spades. Are we about to take you through a fun “6-Degrees” game to examine some of the many connections between our world and “the Ted Lasso Way”? You better BELIEVE it.

Cozy up as we bring back our minisode formatting and the acclaimed game we call “6 Degrees of Education:” Winter Wonderland Edition where you get the benefits of checking out a little bit while still having the opportunity to check in on fun, relevant topics. Today, what better pop culture icon to connect the world of education to than that of legend and national treasure Betty White. This is our way of paying tribute to a comedy genius on what would have been her nearly 100th birthday by looking at what we learn from her extraordinary life and talent.

Cozy up as we bring back our mini-sode formatting and the acclaimed game we call “6 Degrees of Education:” Winter Wonderland Edition where you get the benefits of checking out a little bit while still having the opportunity to check in on fun, relevant topics. Today, we unpack the connections between what we know about education and learning with the cinematic hit, Elf. As Buddy would say, there’s room for everyone on the nice list, so don’t be a cotton-headed-ninny-muggins and make sure to give this one a listen.

According to Egyptian novelist and pulitzer prize winner Naguib Mahfouz (nuh·geeb·maa·fooz) we can tell whether those around us are clever by their answers. However, we can tell if people are wise by the questions they ask. For anyone out there striving to embody that wisdom by having a mind full of good questions and solid questioning strategies, this is the episode for you!

Everyone knows the legend behind how Isaac Newton came up with the gravitational theory. He sat under an apple tree and the idea hit him - literally in the form of an apple. However, there is more to the story. The truth is at that moment, Newton asked a question based on his observation, and that question helped him and us explain so much of the Natural world. Scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and artists today engage in similar processes as they create and iterate - and both students and educators alike can benefit from their expertise. Stay tuned as we discuss how to reinvent instruction using the design thinking framework with another uber talented guest joining us for this one.
Surely if you’ve been a consumer of TV shows, you’ve noticed an ad here or there for a “crossover episode”: Buffy and Angel, Law & Orders, Chicago Fire/PD. There’s some excitement to creators bringing together two existing formats and adding a new element or two and seeing what happens! So welcome to the GLG’s first ever “crossover” combining one of our favorite topics with our favorite games - and adding in a guest who has always inspired us to keep learning and trying new things. Welcome back to the GLG cocktail lounge...you’re in for a treat.

Would Martin Luther King Jr. have made the same incredible mark on our society that he did if Rosa Parks had never boarded the bus? How would FDR’s effect on the landscape of the US have looked without the involvement of his indomitable partner Eleanor?
Zooming in from nation-wide influence to focus in on who gets what done and how - in our teams, our schools, and our workforce...it’s time to examine the impact of the introvert.
