Why Are Thousands of FUSD Retirees Cut Off From Health Care? Community Health and Fresno Unified's health insurance provider, Aetna, failed to reach a contract agreement, causing thousands to be denied care. Community encourages retirees to apply for "continuity of care," but the Fresno Teacher’s Association believes the provider can offer easier access to care. Fresno Unified should be proud of its self-funded health care plan. It is one of the few examples of a public system designed to pay for care, not pay for profit. The question is whether Fresno Unified will protect that legacy, or quietly outsource it away.
