What was it like to be 19 years old when Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” exploded and grunge began changing rock music forever? In this video, I take you back to my freshman year of college in 1991. I was a glam-metal kid, and when Nirvana first started breaking through, I didn't think much of it. But over the course of that year, I watched as grunge went from something new and different to a cultural phenomenon—and I began to realize what it meant for the hair-metal bands I loved. It was painful watching some of my favorite bands fade away, but looking back, there was also something incredible about being 19 years old and witnessing a major cultural shift in real time. With the 35th anniversary of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and its MTV debut upon us, here's my personal story of what it was like to be there when everything changed.#Nirvana #SmellsLikeTeenSpirit #Grunge #HairMetal #90sRock #TheHairMetalGuruPlease Like, Subscribe, & HYPE!!
