Was Heartbreak Station the album that kept Cinderella from reaching the next level of superstardom?In this episode of The Hair Metal Guru, we take a look back at Cinderella's 1990 third album, Heartbreak Station. After the massive success of Night Songs and Long Cold Winter, the band took a very different direction—leaning heavily into blues, roots rock, and even country influences.The album still had a few great songs, and Cinderella certainly didn't disappear. But compared to what bands like Poison and Mötley Crüe were accomplishing at the time, Heartbreak Station represented a major shift in direction and didn't deliver the same commercial impact as their first two albums.So we debate the big "what if": What if Cinderella had given fans more of the straight-ahead hard rock they loved on their first two albums? Could that have helped Cinderella become one of the true superstar bands of the era, potentially putting them in the same conversation as Poison and Mötley Crüe and even earning them a spot on something like The Stadium Tour?Was Heartbreak Station simply Cinderella following their artistic instincts—or was it a missed opportunity at a crucial moment in their career?Cinderella absolutely had a successful career.
