In our final instalment to our four part series on Social Justice this February, Jezzie and Sigi revisit allyship. Jezzie discusses two ways to provide continued support: cultural humility and activism self care. He highlights that allies adopt cultural humility as a purposeful stance that promotes reflection, introspection and constant learning, while self care is really a call to finding balance in one’s life. For our fixing of the week, we want to know what interest have you not pursued in a long time and is there a way to pursue it during the pandemic?

On the third installment of our four part series on Social Justice,  Jezzie helps Sigi sort issues that need advocacy by adopting an intersectionality analysis. Jezzie explains how intersectionality arose from work in critical race theory being applied to legal studies, as a way of understanding why certain changes in the law to address discrimination did not create sizeable changes in oppressed people’s lives. He also discusses the importance of intersectionality to consider when facing multiple oppression. Jezzie guides Sigi through an exercise to explore intersectionality as to highlight one’s social location and shares the importance of giving a voice and place those voices front and centre to the injustices that they experience.

On our second instalment of this special collection on Social Justice, Jezzie and Sigi discuss Speaking Up as Social Action. How does fear play a role in not speaking up? How do we ready ourselves to speak up? Jezzie shares how fear can be a sign to prepare and highlights the ways we can prepare ourselves by researching, planning, consulting, practicing and being kind to yourself.

This February, The Halo Halo Podcast revisits Social Justice and drops the first of  a four-part series. On this episode Jezzie and Sigi discuss what Righteous Anger is;  what does it mean; and what do we do with it. Jezzie talks of how such a feeling is really a call to take action and should motivate us to speak out about the mistreatment we see or witness.  Finally, your co-hosts encourages us all to invoke and task the FilipinX spirit of Bayanihan on becoming more inclusive.
