Why do we build monuments for people who are gone?

Why do we plant gardens in someone's memory, carve names into stone, or create portraits of people who have died?

For thousands of years, humans have turned memory into something physical.

In this episode of The Haunted Canvas, we're exploring why.

Why do we keep things we don't need?

An old photograph. A handwritten letter. A piece of jewelry. A painting that doesn't quite match the room.

To someone else, these things might look ordinary. Maybe even useless.

But sometimes, we're not really holding onto an object.

We're holding onto a person. A moment. A place. A version of our life that we don't want to forget.

A candle might represent hope, faith, life or its disappearance. A skull can remind us of mortality, while a key might hint at secrets, knowledge, or something waiting to be unlocked.
