Publisher's Summary:
Mystery and horror surround the 17-room vine-covered plantation house. What was thought to be the solution to all of Evelyn Carr's problems is only the beginning of her nightmare. Creepy neighbors arrive unannounced, the town hates her for inexplicable reasons, and there's something inside of the basement.
As a determined private investigator, Evelyn is hell-bent on learning the truth before the house tears her and her husband apart, figuratively and literally.

Editor needed!
This was a really hard book to get into, mostly because it so desperately needed a good editor. Overly descriptive. A good editor would know that not EVERY noun needs an adjective or three.
Yet, despite being so wordy, information needed for conversations and jokes to make sense weren't included, only to be randomly mentioned later (oh! That's why they said such and such).
There were conversations that made no sense. For example:
"You knew my father? "
"Yes...."
Sentences later in the conversation:
"Well, I'm his daughter. "
"Daughter? I thought... nevermind. "
It was an endless string of easily corrected problems. I can't say for certain, but there might be a decent story buried in the mess.
Another great ghost story begins!
Despite a few spots that could use polishing, I really enjoyed reading this book. There's a lot of action as well as mysterious goings-on that kept me in suspense until the very end.
The writer has presented an original work despite taking the reader into familiar territory. Character development is slow, but there's enough to flesh out a good woman who's had a difficult life and her kind, loving husband. At least, I think that's what they're like.
I have a feeling that Book One will be full of shocking revelations about secrets exposed in this thrilling prequel.
Series Introduction story
I started this book knowing it was going to end on a cliff-hanger. I usually skip books like that but the story sounded intriguing enough that I was prepared to buy the next book in the series. This was an okay story, and I would think the series would progress the farther a reader invests. I couldn't really connect with the characters and I was hoping for something of a spookier nature. Given the cliffhanger ending, I think the first entry could have benefited from being stronger. I'm sure many readers will enjoy this. For me, it's a 3.5 star read.
Beware Cliff Ahead
This is the second book in a row I've read that just ends abruptly at a random location in the story. There should be a warning that this is not a complete story. It is a teaser to lure you into the series. The writing wasn't good enough to accomplish that. Lots of errors and silliness, which if you plod through like I did, is rewarded with a cliff hanger.
CLIFFHANGER!!! Don't waste you time.....
I wasted an afternoon reading this stupid ....hunk of junk, only to have a cliffhanger! When are these amateur writers going to realize that leaving a cliffhanger does NOT get people to buy and read the next book! NEVER! I've made note of the writer (real authors NEVER do this) and will never spend one penny on her books. Disgraceful.
