Biography:  Dr. Ashley Poole has joined the Doctor of Physical Therapy Division as Assistant Director of Clinical Education. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy with specific expertise in the care and management of patients with cardiovascular disorders, especially for patients who are medically complex or in critical care. She is an APTA advanced credentialed clinical instructor and an APTA credentialed clinical trainer. Dr. Poole has a passion for educating students and clinical instructors and her goal is to inspire innovative models of clinical education that bridge the gap from classroom to clinic.

In this episode, we are joined by Dr. David Bruton Jr., a former professional football player who retired and went on to become a physical therapist. He comes onto the show to tell us about his journey of becoming a DPT.   Biography: David Bruton Jr. is a former professional football player in the NFL for 8 years, 7 with the Broncos and 1 with the Washington Football Team, from 2009-2016. He played at the University of Notre Dame where he graduated with two degrees, political science and sociology, in 2009. He is a member of the CU Physical Therapy Scholarship Board, Founder of Bruton’s Books, and an advocate for change. He graduated from the University of Colorado DPT program in December 2021 and is the founder and owner of Between the Lines Physical Therapy, helping people return to their game!

Dr. Katie O’Bright is a physical therapist who discovered the problems with PT/PTA CE accreditation as a post-professional educator. Together with her team, Dr. O’Bright founded the Accreditation Commission on Continuing Education in Physical Therapy - the first independent accrediting agency for PT/PTA post-professional education activities. Dr. O’Bright is also an Army PT veteran, passionate about the advancement of the PT profession, specifically in the area of team-based primary care. She now lives outside Chicago with her husband & 2 sons.

In this episode, Dr. Ira Gorman, PT, PhD, MSPH comes onto the show to talk about his position as Assistant Dean and discusses the different pathways to get there. Biography: Ira Gorman has been a physical therapist for 40 years and has been at Regis University since the creation of the PT program in 1995. He was a part of the group of professionals that came together in 1994 to start a new physical therapy education program in Colorado that was evidenced based and believed in quality patient centered care around Jesuit values. Ira presently focuses his teaching on the areas health policy, business management, diagnostic imaging, global health and professional values. He incorporates his behavioral health and public health background to give the students a population health perspective that incorporates the social determinants of health into a physical therapy intervention program that helps truly meet the APTA vision of transforming society. Ira has a long history of public policy work on health care reform nationally as a former member of the public policy committee for APTA, the APTA Political Action Committee Board of Trustees and locally as a member of Colorado Commission for Affordable Healthcare. He presently serves as a Governor appointed member of the Colorado State Board of Physical Therapy. He teaches with passion, commitment and practical experience as a former clinic owner and clinic director.
