Are you an Enneagram 2, a DISC SC, an INFJ...or maybe just a mango?
There are countless tools that promise to help us understand ourselves, but what happens when the results don't quite fit? And how do we use what we learn without allowing a personality type or label to define who we are?
In this episode of the HeART Space Podcast, Carly and Dani welcome Lauren Stidham, certified life and leadership coach, Enneagram specialist, and founder of Blueprint to Bloom, for a lively conversation about self-discovery, personality assessments, and the art of knowing ourselves.
Together, we explore tools like the Enneagram, DISC, Myers-Briggs, and StrengthsFinder, and consider how they can help us recognize our patterns, communicate our needs, and develop greater compassion for ourselves and others.
We also talk about the dangers of putting ourselves (or other people) into boxes, why the conversations we have about our results may be more valuable than the assessments themselves, and how curiosity and creativity can help us make meaning of what we discover.
Along the way, we explore watercolor, perfectionism, the vulnerability of being seen, and the possibility of an entirely new personality assessment based on fruit!
Ultimately, knowing ourselves isn't about finding the perfect label. It's about developing a deeper relationship with who we are, while leaving room for who we might become.

What do you know about yourself because you've been told? What do you know because you've experienced it?
When the world feels uncertain, money is tight, and the future seems unpredictable, making art can feel like a luxury we can't afford. But what if creativity is one of the things we need most during difficult times?
In this episode of the HeART Space Podcast, Carly and Dani explore why we so often put creativity aside when life gets hard, and what we might be missing when we do. From the pressure to be productive and the temptation to numb ourselves through endless scrolling, to the ways art helps us discover who we are, this conversation challenges the idea that creativity has to be useful, beautiful, or profitable to be worthwhile.
They talk about the power of making something simply for the experience, how perfectionism can steal our creative joy, and why art can help us reclaim a sense of agency, hope, and belonging when so much feels beyond our control.
As part of October's theme, The Art of Knowing, Carly and Dani consider how creative expression helps us sit with uncertainty, discover new perspectives, and reconnect with ourselves and each other.
And the best part? You don't need expensive supplies, artistic talent, or hours of free time. You can begin with what you already have.

Make a little space for what wants to be made.
Every ending carries the possibility of a beginning, but that doesn't mean the transition is easy. In this episode, Carly and Dani welcome Dr. Amy Drewek for a thoughtful conversation about grief, change, self-trust, and the uncertainty of stepping into something new.
Together, we explore how even chosen endings can bring unexpected grief, how we begin to imagine possibilities beyond what we've known, and the role creativity can play in helping us navigate the space between what was and what might be.
What becomes possible when we allow ourselves to grieve what has ended while making room for what comes next?
What can improv teach us about being human?
This week, our neighbor Kimber Innecken joins Carly and Dani at the HeART Space table. Kimber is a trauma-informed life coach, founder of Fish for Life Coaching, and facilitator at The Restoration Room, where she leads Intro to Improv.
We talk about why you don’t have to be funny to do improv, what happens when we stop trying to get it right, and how practicing “yes, and” can help us become a little more comfortable with mistakes, pauses, uncertainty, and whatever happens next.
But our conversation goes well beyond improv. We talk about play, getting stuck, trusting ourselves, expanding our comfort zones, accepting what is, and why we need places where we can practice all of that together.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, Kimber says three words that stay with us:
“I pick you.”
Because maybe we don’t have to figure everything out alone. Maybe sometimes we just need someone to say, “Come play. Be on my team. I pick you.”

This month at HeART Space, we’re exploring Beginning. In this episode, Carly and Dani turn the questions toward themselves. They talk about their own creative beginnings, the experiences that shaped them, how HeART Space came to be, and some of the beginnings they only recognized after they were already underway.
It’s a chance to get to know the voices behind the podcast—and to wonder about the beginnings that have brought each of us to where we are now.
For our very first episode, we’re starting with "Beginning." The September theme at HeART Space. Carly and Dani talk about what it means to be creative, where our ideas about creativity come from, what gets in the way of making and playing, and why beginning can sometimes be the hardest part. We also wonder what changes when we stop worrying about being “good” at creativity and simply give ourselves permission to begin.
