Heartland Bonus Content - Season 6 Episode 1
And as if that weren’t impressive enough, your brain is also humming along on different wavelengths gamma, delta, alpha, theta, and beta all regulating different mental states. The brain’s complexity is staggering, yet at the same time, there’s a beautiful simplicity to how it all just works for us every day without us giving tons of thought to the why or how.
Alpha-active rest (hobbies, reading)
Theta: deep thought getting lost (meditation, prayer)
We need to find times to carve in Alpha/Theta so we don’t burn out in BETA.
Gratitude War - Just like the card game of war, but before the higher card can pick up their “win cards” for each flip, they have to say something they are grateful for and take a deep breath.
3 Things Gratitude - Set an intention to look for three things throughout the day that brings you gratitude. When you find one, pause, take a breath and connect with the emotion and feeling of thankfulness. Connecting an emotional response to your gratitude is where brain training happens. You’ll be wiring new neural pathways to make you automatically more look for things to be grateful for.
At the end of the day, reflect on your mental list, and consider saving your gratitudes to reflect on. Repeat this activity every day until it becomes routine.
Reverse Engineering Peace Of Mind Goals
Sit and think about what peace of mind looks like for you. What is the end game or goal, how would you walk through the world? Then just make small stepping stones from where you are to where you want to be. Can you make something in your day look differently to bring you more peace, can you take a break differently? Can you carve out time for a mindful walk or time to do a hobby? What thoughts do you need to capture, how do you need to talk to yourself?
