Hip Hop has much progressed since it's early beginnings. The hip hop music we hear today has a very recognizable sound. Artists like Roddy Rich, XXXTentacion (RIP), Playboi Carti, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Juice WRLD (RIP), Youngboy, etc. have all taken the forefront of mainstream hip hop. As history repeats itself, today's artists were once influenced by their predecessors, taking certain elements from them and applying them to their own artistry. Legends like Eminem, Ice Cube, 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z have all had a huge impact on today's artists. On this episode EC and OH focus on two of Hip Hop's most influential artists: Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Between the two, who has been the most influential to this new generation of Artists? The great Tupac Amaru Shakur was once asked in a interview about his thoughts on the future sound of Hip Hop. It is no secret that the 80's and 90's are widely considered as the "golden eras" of Hip Hop: filled with top-tier MCs and the boom-bap sound that was at the forefront of Hip Hop. Today, that is not the case any more. This new era of hip hop has a completely new sound and has allowed many different types of artists into the game. The late great DMX left an unforgettable stamp in the Rap game, delivering some undeniable top-tier projects throughout his career. Being 20+ years deep in the game, X has never been afraid to lay out his struggles and demons in his music. In recent years it seemed like X was in a great space in his personal life. Considered now as an "old school" rapper, X was slowly embracing the new sound that Hip Hop has adapted. This is evident in his last album before his tragic passing, Exodus. X grabs ahold of the new school on this project in the likes of Moneybagg Yo and Griselda artists; Benny The Butcher, Westside Gunn, and Conway The Machine. However, Earl Simmons keeps the same gritty style alongside the peers he came up with: Jay-Z, Nas, Swizz Beatz, and Alicia Keys. Tune in to hear EC and OH give their take on this project.
