In the late 19th century, the Montreal Hockey Club (MHC) was the team to beat, and they were the jewel atop the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association's (MAAA) crown. MHC won seven of the first eight championships in the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC), and did so consecutively. Perhaps their biggest claim to fame, however, is being the first team in history to win the Stanley Cup; winning it in both 1893, and 1894.
What you may not know about them, however, is how they were embroiled in a bitter dispute with their parent organization, MAAA, for years following their initial Cup victory in 1893. Listen in as we explore what happened between these two sides who were once the best of friends, but became enemies, and how simple misunderstandings lead to never truly resolving their dispute.
