In November 2019 during Global Entrepreneurship Week we held the #TogetherForTheWin Conference, a round table discussion with experienced young creative entrepreneurs, sharing their experiences in the world of entrepreneurship.

Episode 15 of the Hive Network Podcast brings you part 2 of this round table discussion as our panel of entrepreneurs take us through how they decided to turn their passions into businesses. They share how resources like actually working for someone else will help you understand the structure of a business and even tell us how rap music and movies about drugs hold valuable business lessons.

These go from ensuring that everyone that's part of your business is aware of things that affect them timely, to having set systems in place to make sure your business is always prepared to get into the spaces you envision for it.

The panel shares their proudest moments, highlighting the wins they've got along the way. Key learnings on the challenges encountered on their path to reaching these wins are also shared as we learn how Ubuntu can sometimes be our downfall.

In November 2019 during Onboard Week we sat with Matshele Molaoli, founder and director of Famevo, a brand that fixes women’s crowns, for episode 13 of the Hive Network Podcast.

Matshele shares how her negative experiences with other women, like women not collaborating and building together, gave her the idea and reason to start Femevo. She talks us through the influence of having the right network in order to get your business to where you want it to be and how a lack of a track record will have you labeled a nobody.

She believes that there needs to be more exposure given to women who want to make a positive impact, focusing on conversations that build communities and tackle the social issues that South Africans face daily like abuse and GBV.

Episode 12

In November 2019 during Onboard Week we sat with Mbali Hlatshwayo of Abahlali, a collective of designers who aim to redefine how powerful women in society are portrayed, for episode 12 of the Hive Network Podcast.

Abahlali was created by a group of young designers who share a love for women and want to celebrate and re-empower them through their designs. They are on a quest to learn how to navigate the business space and use their business competitive advantage to compete in the design space.

Mbali has learned about the importance of finance during onboard week, talking us through the importance of reinvesting in your business, sharing the importance of being financially savvy and following a well put out plan to help build and protect your brand.

Episode 11: White Fox

In November 2019 during Onboard Week we sat with Lerato Mnguni, founder of White Fox an online food store that delivers local food to your door, for episode 10 of the Hive Network Podcast.

White Fox believes in working with stores that are growing, with the objective of helping them reach more customers through their app. Lerato shares the challenge of getting capital to get her business off the ground, letting us in on the importance of having a supportive family that understands the end goal and also tells us how she negotiates her way around financial issues.

She urges entrepreneurs to share their experiences in totality, not just the positive highlights but the depressing lows too. This will help upcoming entrepreneurs have a more holistic idea of entrepreneurship.

Episode 10:

In November 2019 during Onboard Week we sat with Ngwako Matloha, founder and CEO of Digital Child Design Studio, for episode 10 of the Hive Network Podcast.

He takes us through how he first came across the Hive Network, what led him to apply to become a member, his thoughts as he filled out the application form and the experience he had once he finally came into our space.

Ngwako shares how the Onboard Week workshops from entrepreneurs like Bernard were a great learning experience. He also shared how finding more clients is a challenge for him which led to a debate about the difference between big and small clients. He then takes us through how motivating it is to see other creatives that are doing well in their respective fields.

Episode 9

In November 2019 during Onboard Week, we sat with Shane who runs Mocharito, for episode 9 of the Hive Network Podcast.

He talks through how his mexican food business came to life as a result of sleepless nights and extensive research into food trends. Then tells us how difficult it’s been to find the right partner for his business as well as the challenge of securing finance.

Shane is all about execution and believes that a creation only becomes an innovation once you commercialise it. He feels that more conversations about entrepreneurs starting regardless of not having any finance are important to help build and create more entrepreneurs. We also learn how Onboard Week helped him sharpen his pitching skills.

Episode 8

In November 2019 during Onboard Week, we sat with Kutloano Mohlasedi who runs member business Delicious Love Food, for episode 8 of the Hive Network Podcast.

She tells us about what exactly her business does, shares some of the challenges she’s encountered along her journey in entrepreneurship, talks us through how she found out about the Hive Network and what Onboard Week taught her about her business.

Sourcing funding is one of the biggest challenges in our country and Delicious Love Food is no exception as they’ve encountered that issue. Kutloano talks us through navigating this challenge while also finding ways to market her business in order to reach its target market.

Staff is a vital tool and for Delicious Love Food this means finding talented chefs who make the best food which is its own challenge. Kutloano has also learned the value of having a unique selling point to help differentiate Delicious Love Food from its competitors. She stresses the importance of mentorship in helping startups to grow to their full potential and how Onboard Week has made her rethink her business model.
