Welcome to the Holding Time Podcast. Here we discuss breastfeeding in all it’s complexity - the ups and down, the challenges, the triumphs. Whether you are expectant, a new mother or simply interested, I hope you’ll appreciate the incredible warrior women who are managing to breastfeed babies across the country.
This podcast is part of the Holding Time Project, an experimental intervention in chronically low breastfeeding statistics. Through music, art and writing, we’re looking at the reality of breastfeeding and listening to mothers who know a thing or two about how things could be better.
I just felt better prepared.
Ellie talks about the differences between her first and second children, born twenty years apart. After a huge struggle to feed her first, she resolves to be better prepared the second time around and finally succeeds.
“I just thought, I’m determined to breastfeed. So I got books, I watched videos, I went to classes before I went…. And just felt better prepared than the first time and I suppose more prepared for the fact…that she wasn’t just going to feed and it’d be magic. It might work for some people like that. But the more people I speak to, I don’t think there are many people that that happens for”.
