  • The HOME Show: 12/11/25

The HOME hosts chatted about the "Christmas craziness," mentioning stuff like slow mail and higher shipping costs, and suggested everyone shop local. For holiday home décor, they pitched fun ideas like a black Christmas tree and using live plants.

Russ Jackson and Whitney Wigglesworth from Southern Air dropped some winterizing tips. They said to unhook outside hoses, shut off the isolation valves for the hose spigots, and if you're taking a long trip, maybe turn off the main water and the electric water heater's breaker. They also loved water sensor pucks and smart systems for catching leaks and gave a shout-out to tankless water heaters for being super-efficient, adding that Southern Air can help with financing, tax credits, and rebates.

Anthony Markham and Aine Aylward from Piedmont Floor Show dished out kitchen reno advice. Anthony's all about replacing old cabinets instead of just refacing them to get that modern functionality. Aine pointed out that design-wise, people are moving past super-stark white cabinets to softer off-whites, earth tones, deeper greens, and darker woods, often mixing and matching colors or wood finishes on the cabinets and islands. Quartz is still a hit, but granite is making a comeback for countertops.

She stressed the critical importance of proactive prevention in avoiding homelessness and shared details about the upcoming Downtown Historic Church Open House, a free holiday event featuring tours of seven historic Lynchburg churches.

Laura Francis Borel from Francis Oil and Propane dropped by to offer essential safety tips ahead of the forecasted snow, advising homeowners to clear paths for delivery trucks and check tank gauges early. • The HOME Show: 11/20/25

The HOME girls and Rich kick off the show with holiday talk, discussing Thanksgiving preparations and their must-have traditional side dishes, including Jen's corn pudding and Rich's specific criteria for green bean casserole. Later, they transition to the winter issue's feature on local Christmas tree farms, offering tips on choosing and maintaining a live tree for the entire season.

Andy Flint, owner of LG Flint General Contractors, joined the discussion to talk about popular cold-weather renovation projects like kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, and the growing trend of investing in luxury primary suites (freestanding tubs, heated floors). He stressed the importance of starting with a realistic budget, thoroughly vetting owner selections, and prioritizing quality, unseen materials like insulation and windows.

Corey Argentino, owner of Earth Right Mid-Atlantic, covered the evolution of solar power and the critical need for battery backup. He explained that solar panels alone won't keep the lights on during a blackout, and detailed how batteries, such as the Tesla Powerwall, store and replenish power from the panels, serving as a peace-of-mind solution against future grid outages.

Connor Bowman, owner of Mightee Movers, a local moving company, joined the show to discuss his services, which include local, in-state, and out-of-state moves, junk removal, packing/unpacking, and furniture rearrangement. Connor advised that customers should allow at least one to two weeks for packing before a move, and stressed the importance of labeling boxes clearly.

Alicia Smith, Vice President of F&S Building Innovations, dropped by to discuss luxurious bathroom upgrades to create a spa-like feel. Key considerations for luxury bathrooms include heated floors (which can be retrofitted), heated towel bars, and docking drawers to keep cords organized and off the counter. Alicia also noted the growing trend of using bold colors, jewel tones, statement wallpaper, and tile drenching on entire bathroom walls. She warned that chandeliers over bathtubs are now heavily restricted or prohibited by local building codes.
